Antec True 380SP + Fuhjyyu cap - lights out

    Helo Everyone
Somebody trashed this PSU for a good reason, it blows the fuses at home (and god knows what else with it). Since I like a chalange, I am trying to recover it. This time the bad cap is on the imput side, a 470uf 200v. My humble theory: the cap has gone bad, which caused a Mosfet (k2996, already replaced) to fail (completly shorted) and of course: the fuses at home go and with it chuncks fly off the green thermistor.
The thermistor is a pain to get, a SCK0510, 10A max, R 5, the closest I got is 10A, R 2.5 (dont think the beast will complaint too much about the 2.5 O difference), it should arrive in a few days. But its the cap that I am having trouble with, due to the size, D 25mm L 25mm. The worse is there is no room to improvise, both caps are sandwished between the main and upper pcbs. All I can find here in Brussels are monsters that would not fit in there even with a hammer. Does anybody know any shop that would sell a pair of those around this part of the world (Germany, Holland, Fance)?
Thanks for any advice. Some pics to ilustrate the ordeal.

PS: I saw some posts about the 18A max on the 12v, well this psu is 24A.

    Welcome Melios,

I've looked through the catalogs of the more popular Dutch component vendors for you, and I've been able to find quite a number of 470uF, 200V caps (Panasonic-brand especially), but all of these are, at best, 25dia x 30h. As far as you can see, would the extra 5mm height be already enough to prevent them from fitting in the PSU?

Another common size seems to be 25dia x 20h, but these tend to have capacitance in the range of 220uF, and so would hardly prove adequate substitutes for your blown Fuhjyyus.

      Melios,
I see your in Europe so this may not help you.
That power supply is on Ebay and the bidding is up to .99us.
Yes I do mean less than one dollar, working pull.
It just makes me think, FYI.

        Hi Tiresias
        Thanks for your help
Thanks to the manufacturers links in this forum, I found identicaly sized replacements for the two Fihjyyu's :

        Nichicon: LGN2D47MELA25, LGG2P471MELA25
        Rubycon: 200MXG470M, 200USC470M, 200USG470M
        Sanyo: series PE-HC, PE-HD, PE-ED

I am sure there are others. The problem of course will be to be able to buy two of theese whithout having to pay for a truck full of them

The extra 5 mim lenght of the Panasonics would probably still work in terms of placement, but their tops would come too close to the underside of the top PCB where the high voltages flow, and that is too close for confort for me, all it takes is some heat expansion or slight bulging of their tops + some vibration and they would be rubbing againts the sharp soldered pins of the components of the top pcb and the rest is eazy to imagine...

Anyway, I am on hold for know for those exact replacements, I got two TEAPOs (black listed but looking brand new) as temporary replacements connected to the dismentled psu just to test it and it turns out this thing still does not work so there is still some unsoldering to do before I try to get the permanent replacements. I think I got too optimistic when I found that shorted mosfet. Thats also why it took me some time to reply. What ever the outcome is will post it here. It may turn out that exceeds my capabilities
        thks

That would be handy, although to ship this brick to Brussels...

Anyway, fortunatly I don't have a machine down waiting for this thing. I found this along with other trashed psus that I didn't even bother to look inside until I started to look for those caps. Its just that these Antecs got good reviews when they appeared. Its a pity all these Fuhjyyu's inside.
Hardware reviewers should re-test products after working for a while to measure reliability and publish their findings.
