Probably best idea to make a new thread about the laptop. That way we can still stay on track with this PSU.

When you're done inserting the components, the blue circle test point should also have full continuity as well, just like the other test points. If that's the case, then just check the voltage on pin 2 of IC3 (the L6384D controller).

Well put it all back together including the cap I substituted since it looked ok and then I hooked it up to fused plug as I wasn't sure about my soldering skills and some of the heat shrink is missing totally on R15, anyway shocking as it seems I found the LED glowing and bingo 19V power out!! I'm thinking now that it's possible that there was a solder defect on R15 or C6, anyways will reassemble the brick and see if it holds out.
One thing I would like to know since I have removed all that white bog is what product should I use to re-stabilize the components, I read some where that white silicon used in bathrooms is acceptable??

No, you can leave everything the way it is. Manufacturers use that white glue to temporarily hold down components before they get wave-soldered. Once soldered, the glue is not needed, but since it doesn't usually harm anything, they leave it in there.

As for using bathroom silicone - I think that won't work. Most types of silicone are slightly acidic and they can eat away components' leads and traces on the board, so don't use it.

Yes I assumed there was no houshold product to to replace the glue so I replaced all the parts without it, anyway its been working well for nearly a week now and the mobo was not damaged, lucky me!
          Thanks everyone for the support.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
            by PantherDave
            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
