Zippy or PC Power & Cooling?

First of all let me say noise and price are no object...

I am looking at 2 brands of PSU`s...
Zippy and PC Power & Cooling.
Forget about how quiet the PSU it doesn`t matter.
I understand both these companies are top notch.
Do iether of these companies have any bad CAP issues?

    Re: PSU question..

    Welcome, Watcher

PC-Power and Cooling, which I have learned are made by Win-Tact, use almost exclusively Teapo-brand caps - you will doubtless have noticed this in the various 'reviews' out there of their Turbocool 510 and 850/1kw series. While not absolute trash like Chhsi and the like, Teapo's record as far as reliability is concerned falls generally short of stellar.

While if you search through this forum you'll find a number of documented Teapo failures, admittedly none specifically involve Turbocool PSUs - then again, this may be more a consequence of the relative rarity of PCP+C's products rather than a manifestation of Teapo's reliability.

On the other hand, Zippy's PSUs do generally use particularly good quality electrolytics (by power supply standards), usually Rubycon.

Choosing between the two, my vote goes to Zippy.

I too vote Zippy... I've seen them using Chemicon as well, and the odd Capxon for smaller caps. However, the PC P&C Turbocool units are still very, very good - I hardly ever see complaints of them failing. The Silencers are all Seasonic for the moment.

Win-Tact's website is here for the curious: http://www.win-tact.com.tw

        Re: PSU question..

ok...so why do we hear almost nothing concerning CAP failures from PC Power & Cooling Products?
What you said makes some sense but who is PC Power & Cooling known for having no CAP problems?

Seems to me again you have to go with the reliability of the product --ie--PC Power & Cooling....and not worry about what you would call teapo brand caps..

I have also been told that even though the PSU is made by a different company they have there own set of standards by which they improve upon to meet there very high standards of quality.

I understand Zippy is the same way. In fact I was under the impression the company that made zippy PSU`s also made PC Power & Cooling PSU`s..

Thank You Oklahoma for the website!!

Personally I would go with PC Power & Cooling.
Zippy is also a real good company!!

Zippy/Emacs makes their own PSU's - I've never seen any proof connecting them to PC P&C. There's a lot of proof for Win-Tact however... the Turbocools often have Win-Tact's logo on the PCB's or heatsinks.

Sparkle also used to supply PC P&C both before and after Sparkle was bought by Fortron-Source. Not sure which models specifically.

I have a theory about Teapo - I believe they hold up somewhat better in a PC power supply than when they are used to filter vcore in a mainboard. My Fortron FSP530-60GNA is all Teapo - never had a single problem with it, and it's almost two years old.

Makes sense though PC P&C is not using Zippy... Zippy is already quite expensive (due in part to not cutting corners on the caps), and PC P&C wouldn't make as much $$$ using them as they do Win-Tact, which uses "good enough" caps

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
            by PantherDave
            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

            Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
            by GLISIT
            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...
