    Hey, its like a wayward EOCF reunion in here, lol. Hey Oklahoma. Thought I'd contribute, just found out my favorite case has one in it. Both my friends have these and I'm going to step up my efforts to get them buy replacement psu's.

      Welcome

      L&C seems to be the most common one - even those with a different name on them will often still have an LC part number.

        Also look for Deer-style model numbers e.g. DR-A300ATX
        My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

          I found a 'JGE' brand 300W unit, model no. JX9810UH, that looks suspiciously like a Deer. I was building a server for my work study, when I came across this power supply. I hooked it all up, and when I put the power cord in, it emitted a loud hissing noise. When I peered inside, I found the usual classic signs of L&Cishness: cheap tiny transformers, missing components, and 'Chang' brand capacitors(?). None of the caps were buldged, but the PSU was so cheesy looking inside I wouldn't want to run anything larger than 150W on it.

          I don't have any pics of the PSU unfortunately (I no longer have access to the PSU in question), but I did try and research the 'Chang' brand of capacitors, and came to the manufacturer's website:

            Another Zebronics, labeled LC-B300ATX with all the classic crapiness - missing caps and filters, tiny secondary caps, etc., inside. The PCB is labeled Y-B200ATX Ver:3.0. The caps are a mix of those 'Rings of Saturn' logo and Canicon. The controller IC is labeled 2003 BAZ49450408H.

            Questions:

            1) Is this L&C/Deer?
            2) What are the most common failure modes on these PSUs, apart from the primary switching transistors and bulging caps?
            3) I have 2 units that worked for about 2 years, but now fail to power up. Both have good +5Vsb. No visible signs of distress. Secondary caps substituted with better stuff, but still no go. Is the '2003' controller IC suspect?
            4) Is the TL494 a direct substitute for the '2003' controller IC?

              1) Looks like that.
              2) Also output rectifiers.
              3) Check output rectifiers for shorts. The controller might be bad too - but they don't fail without a cause.
              4) "BAZ494" suggests that it might be TL494 clone. Check if the circuit matches TL494 pinout. You can compare it with ATX PSU schematic (floating somewhere around the forums).

                Thanks, that was the issue on one of the units. PEC SB1040CT dual 10A Schottky-Barrier Rectifier on the +5v rail - one of the two diodes had shorted out. BTW, +5v has a (fake) rating of 30A on this unit; going by the rating on the rectifier, it shouldn't be more than 20A continuous, IMHO. There's no way around this, because of the secondary diode-inductor-capacitor topology and Kirchoff's current law - each of the diodes conducts for less than 50% of the cycle.

                The 3.3v rail has a similar 10A rectifier, and the ones on the +12v rail are 3A FR302 rectifiers. That gives us a maximum power rating of 20A x 5V + 20A x 3.3V + 6A x 12V + 2A x 5V (+5Vsb) = 100 + 66 + 72 + 10 = 248 W, and I'm being very generous on the combined rating of the +5v and +3.3v rails.

                Going by the puny transformers, inductors and capacitors, I doubt that it exceeds 150 - 200 W in reality.

                Actually, it seems to be a custom analog IC which integrates additional stuff, including a 3.3v post-regulation circuit (not always used). I can't find an exact substitute from the info on the reverse-engineered schematic zipfile that's floating around - it's identified merely as a '2003' on that schematic.
