        Post the motherboard model number

        Beginner's guidelines

        1.1.3 Motherboard model number

        1.1.3 Motherboard model number

Motherboard model number is the most useful if you are troubleshooting a motherboard problem. It helps finding pictures, schematics, boardviews, known issues…

There is always a number written on the board itself. In some cases there's also a sticker that tells a variant.

There are several different board manufacturers, common ones are:
        • Quanta: found in HP, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, a few Lenovo… Model number on the board is "DA0xxxxMByyy" (first 0 is optional), "xxxxx" is the actual model and "yyy" contains the revision. For example DAY11AMB6E0 for Quanta Y11A rev E. Warning: 0 and O are hard to distinguish when reading from the board, for example DA0OP6MB6D0 for Quanta OP6.
        • Compal: found in HP, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo… Model number is "LA-xxxxP" (P is optional), the older, the lower the number is. Like LA-4082P from 2007 or LA-E541P from 2017.
        • LCFC: found in Lenovo, it's actually Compal. Model number is "NM-xxxx"
        • Wistron: found in Acer (Wistron was part of Acer a long time ago), some Dell, HP, Lenovo… Model number is a "xxxxx-x" (x being a digit), often associated with a name. For example "Richie MB 11241-1".
        • Inventec: Toshiba, some Acer, HP… Model number is often "xxyyzz" with "x" being a letter, "y" a digit and "z" an optional letter. There's also a "6050xxxxxxxx-MB-xx" number that can be easier to spot. For example "SA10E" and "6050A2052401-MB-A04" for Inventec San Antonio 10E.
        • Foxconn: Sony, some HP. HP have a weird model number like "CHICAGO_HR_HPC MV_MB_V1" or "PM_I_HPC_S MV_MB_V3". Sony come with an "MBX-xxxx" number that's easy to identify, and another number, like "MBX-202" and "M790".
        • Pegatron: a few Acer and Toshiba. Acer in general have a "xxyyzz" with "x" being a letter, "y" a digit and "z" an optional letter. Toshiba have a weird model number like "PLF/PLR/CSF/CSR UMA"

The following manufacturers make their own boards (except maybe a few models here and there):
        • Apple: board model number is "820-xxxxx", like "820-3462". It's written black on black so it's hard to spot.
        • Asus: board model number follows the same format as the laptop model number, it can be the same or similar, and sometimes different.
        • MSI: model number is "MS-xxyxz", with x being digits, y a digit or a letter and z a optional digit for the revision. Some boards have 2 different model numbers like "MS-16J5" and "MS-1795" (with a 1 appended for the revision).
        • Samsung: model number is name associated with a "BA41-xxxxxx" number, like "Bremen-D" and "BA41-01197A".
        • Clevo: they manufacture laptops for a lot of "small local" brands. There are often 2 model numbers on the board, like "6-71-W25S0-D02" and "W251ESMB-D0".
        • Toshiba: a few business grade machines only. Something like "FLESY3" or "FHNSY1"

HannStar don't design boards, they manufacture the PCB. "J MV-4" and "94-V0" are not board model numbers, they are generic markings about PCB characteristics.

If unsure, send high-resolution pictures of the board. They are always welcome in any case.

Harman Kardon sub TS11 (ds15 amplifer) blows fuse and mosfets
                      by BlackScreen_22
Hi, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert and I've reached a point where I don't know what to try/do anymore...
Starting from the beginning: I opened this subwoofer for the first time with a very strong smell of burnt electrical components, I realize that on the amplifier board there is a hole between V+ OUT and GND about the size of a finger, the damaged components were the shorted mosfets, two damaged zener diodes and two capacitors. I bought everything, I fixed the hole by cutting the pcb and putting a piece of a perforated board.
I had no problems connecting mosfets and capacitors,...

Intel D865PERL - no Vcore after replacing MOSFETs and MOSFET drivers
                      by kotel studios
                      Hi,

Finally got time to fix this board up.
At first it didn't give any POST codes. Turns out it was an unsupported Celeron D cpu. After dropping in an Celery 2.6gHz the CPU came out of reset with clock signal, but still no post codes. For a while it did work when I applied pressure to the ADP3168 chip, but on next reboot the MOSFETs started to burn. Then I left it as is for months.

Now I came back prepared. Replaced the bad MOSFETs and the ADPxx18k drivers. Now I don't get any MOSFETs blowing up issues anymore. But sadly, the Vcore is missing. The whole VRM isn't...

Gainward Phantom GTX 980 - mosfets w/ integrated driver NCP5369
                      by flerre
                      Hi!

Managed to get a Gainward Phantom GTX 980 in an auction for a bin with components.
No video out so I started fault finding and found a blown fuse for 3 mosfets. Started checking for shorts and found what I think is a short through all of those 3 mosfets; 0.1 ohms between "VIN" input and "VSWH" output. All mosfets in this gpu are the same ones (NCP5369) with integrated drivers and when I tried measuring the other ones through these ports they were somewhere in the kilo-ohms range.

So, could I safely assume all of these 3 mosfets are...

                      kenwood kr-6030 Mosfets?????
                      by DrDos
Hello everyone, I have decided to try and replace the mosfets in my power amp (the one with relay and left and right sides) on my kenwood kr-6030. I'm trying to get the A side of my speakers working. I have replaced all the caps in the power board and I thought why not change the mosfets. They seem to be working since I have great music coming out of the B side speakers and since I am not an electronic guru (but I am learning) I don't want to make any mistakes. The mosfets I have are listed A913 so I guess 2sa913 and 2sc1913. Can't really find those in mouser or digikey at least with the info...

Lenovo Ideapad 15IIL05, turns on and off with charger BUT works by injecting 20v after main mosfets
                      by NanoTesting
I got a 15-IIL05 that failed to turn on BUT IT DID TRY TO TURN ON and then turned off after 30+- seconds, i disassembled it and found a screw loose inside the case.
With charger it turns on, fan spins but gives no image.
Tested main mosfets no short, tested 3.3v,5v,DRAM, CPU etc and they were present.
                      Reflashed BIOS, same problem.
                      Replaced both main mosfets.
Checked main mosfets again and i noticed that they closed once the laptop shut down, so i decided to bypass them and used a bench PSU to check how much power the laptop was drawing while trying to turn on, 20v@3A,...
