Re: hp elitebook 745 g6 amd bios unlock
I removed and tried RCUnlocker on the contents of what I think is U366, actually a W25Q128JV sitting snugly between the M.2 and DIMM2 slots, and I'm still locked out of setup.
In case it helps, here's what I did, essentially:
Then I dropped the file onto RCUnlocker.exe in an old Windows 7 laptop and copied it back in...Code:# flashrom --programmer buspirate_spi:dev=/dev/ttyUSB0 -c "W25Q128.V" -r spidump.bin flashrom v1.3.0 on Linux 5.10.160-gentoo (x86_64) flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org Using clock_gettime for delay loops (clk_id: 1, resolution: 1ns). Found Winbond flash chip "W25Q128.V" (16384 kB, SPI) on buspirate_spi. === This flash part has status UNTESTED for operations: WP The test status of this chip may have been updated in the latest development version of flashrom. If you are running the latest development version, please email a report to flashrom@flashrom.org if any of the above operations work correctly for you with this flash chip. Please include the flashrom log file for all operations you tested (see the man page for details), and mention which mainboard or programmer you tested in the subject line. Thanks for your help! Reading flash... done. # cp spidump.bin /path/to/usb/drive/hp_eb_745G6_U366_orig.bin #
Then I replaced the chip and reconnected the 2 batteries. Everything still works fine, but it didn't seem to act any differently. So I listed the actual changes made by RCUnlocker, which appear to be mostly sets of 0xff bytes swapped with sets of 0x00 bytes and vice versa, in the attached file:Code:# md5sum hp_eb_745G6_U366_* 12ddd7780641c31293df20f614f963bd hp_eb_745G6_U366_modded_unlocked.bin 8b534a83ec1683808cb461f0a4c2c6f0 hp_eb_745G6_U366_orig.bin # flashrom --programmer buspirate_spi:dev=/dev/ttyUSB0 -c "W25Q128.V" -w hp_eb_745G6_U366_modded_unlocked.bin flashrom v1.3.0 on Linux 5.10.160-gentoo (x86_64) flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org Using clock_gettime for delay loops (clk_id: 1, resolution: 1ns). Reading old flash chip contents... done. Erasing and writing flash chip... Erase/write done. Verifying flash... VERIFIED. #
I couldn't easily find any RCUnlocker other than 1.0 in the first post of that thread, so that's what I used. Any light anyone can shed will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!Code:# hexdump hp_eb_745G6_U366_modded_unlocked.bin -vC > unlocked.hxdmp # hexdump hp_eb_745G6_U366_orig.bin -vC > original.hxdmp # diff -u original.hxdmp unlocked.hxdmp | unix2dos > /tmp/hexdump_diff.txt #

Exactly. The only thing left is to watch your chip burning process.I removed and tried RCUnlocker on the contents of what I think is U366, actually a W25Q128JV sitting snugly between the M.2 and DIMM2 slots, and I'm still locked out of setup.

Re: hp elitebook 745 g6 amd bios unlock
I also tried HPUnlocker and it merely changed the earlier part identically, skipping those many groups of 0xff. Maybe it means this should be enough... I will try to flash again.Code:00027260 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00027270 12 00 00 00 c0 11 00 00 ff 87 66 f6 f3 8c 19 4a |..........f....J| 00027280 b4 ac f5 f0 b7 8e 4d 18 55 00 73 00 65 00 72 00 |......M.U.s.e.r.| -00027290 43 00 72 00 65 00 64 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 |C.r.e.d.........| -000272a0 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 41 00 64 00 6d 00 |..........A.d.m.| -000272b0 69 00 6e 00 50 00 57 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |i.n.P.W.........| +00027290 43 00 72 00 65 00 64 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |C.r.e.d.........| +000272a0 00 00 ff ff ff ff 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| +000272b0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 000272c0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| -000272d0 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| +000272d0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 000272e0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 000272f0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00027300 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................|

Re: hp elitebook 745 g6 amd bios unlock
TL;DR: It was U365. Take out the mobo and do it to U366 found in almost the same place under/opposite the SSD, not beside the SSD.
The silkscreen showed what appeared to be "U366" in that area, but after I took a decent photo and zoomed in, it was U368 ever-so-slightly misprinted by part of the 8 landing on a via. I briefly thought the IC definitely should be U365 because "U366" (U368) was farther away, and CN365 is right on top of it, as if a socket would go on that SOIC-8-like footprint that surrounds the WSON pads, and it had the same number as if for holding the same IC just in a different package. I compared it to this photo and didn't see anything that should match (the Parade chip). But I had to make sure, the hard way. The real problem is I didn't yet realize (or admit) I absolutely did need to remove the board, even though I had already seen another success and this note. Well, I also didn't think some Elitebooks had such similar innards.
My bad.
So I restored the backup of U365 after I (actually, finally) ran RCUnlocker on the image of U366. And it didn't tell me anything except 'ok, finished' unlike the first time when it wrote out quite a bit of information about the U365 image I gave it, which was weird.
Well, it's sorted now. Thanks, everyone!Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Hello,
I need help unlocking the BIOS password on my HP EliteBook 745 G6.
HP is no longer providing SMC.bin files, and I cannot access BIOS settings or install Windows.
Here are my system details:
- Model: HP EliteBook 745 G6
- Serial Number: 5CGO156F2Q
- Product Number: 5VU37AV
- UUID : 8C738DD9E78AAFA68B57037EDB4F56E6
The laptop is mine, but it's old and out of warranty. I just want to reset the BIOS password so I can reinstall Windows.
Please let me know if you can provide an SMC.bin or unlock instructions.
Thanks in advance!Comment

by zeniusHello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.
Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...-

by WutruHi guys,
If someone would be able to provide some expertise, I'd be very grateful.
BIOS Corruption - Cause
So I managed to corrupt my machine by installing linux and enrolling custom secure boot keys. I did choose to enroll the Microsoft keys as well, to prevent any potential bricking due to 3rd party drivers from HP being signed with those keys.
After doing that, and rebooting(it did boot, powerLED, fanspin etc.), the laptop did not give any video output on the LCD or video connectors. I think I was able to get in BIOS and trigger the beeper by pressing ESC....-

I have a Elitebook 820 G1 and a Elitebook 840 G2 here.
These ask for a password when entering the BIOS, but boot just fine from the internal SSD.

by GuestHello,
I have an EliteBook 850 G5. After a Windows update, including a BIOS update, the notebook turns on, but the screen remains black, and the fans spin at high speed—nothing else happens.
I assume the BIOS update failed, so I searched for the BIOS chip.
I found a Winbond chip located between the RAM and the hard drive, which has a size of 32 MB.
However, the BIOS update available on HP's website is only 17 MB in size. I used the update version that was previously installed when the notebook was still working.
Can the corrupted...-
