It works.
What did you do?

I had to choose the right CSME version, I only got it on the fourth attempt.
There are several CSME versions, it is important that no errors are displayed with MEAnalyzer.

Dell Latitude 5591 - Disable ME via HAP bit only
BIOS package from Dell: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER10054153M/...530_1.27.1.exe
I have experience with using flashrom and SOIC clip, but I couldn't find the BIOS chip on this motherboard. There was one 8-pin chip that was 1 MB in size but it wasn't a valid image according to me_cleaner, although I almost wonder if flashrom needed updated or something. Does anyone know specifically where the BIOS chips is on the 5591?
Is it possible to flash only what is needed to set the HAP bit for ME without needing a hardware flasher? In the past I did --soft-disable-only with me_cleaner.
I'm not sure if I have Boot Guard. I believe I disabled Boot Guard via setup_var variable or something because it caused a BIOS update to repeatedly fail a flashing step, but I'm not sure if it was BG or something else.

I managed to get my SOIC clip onto the BIOS chip, dumped it, me_clean'd the BIOS, and flashed it back. I did soft-disable-only and descriptor flags, but it doesn't seem like the descriptor flag on ME allows writing. There's no HECI PCI device, and ME is reported disabled from FPT and MEInfo CSME tools.
The BIOS chip (at least mine) was near the PCH chip, and I had to remove the plastic covering holding the wifi wires, battery, and covering the touchpad to reach it comfortably.Last edited by Espionage724; 06-27-2023, 03:39 AM.
