smc.bin files have not been used for years, it will not work. Post your request in a new thread or try the two HP unlock tools, RCUnlocker and HPUnlocker - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=103526Comment

Spectre is not supported by smc.bin nor hpunlocker/rcunlocker.
It probably has some hash for generating password. Maybe after entering wrong password 3 times. Alternatively you would need to read your dump and post it for someone to unlock it.Comment

8 years ago I bought Hp Elitebook 8470p from an online store. it was very expensive. Unfortunately, it broke and after those years I finally repaired it.
For about 4months have been trying to get into my bios but it has a password. have tried all means I can but failed till I met this file called SMC.bin file needed to unlock my laptop.
I need help. Anyone who can help me? please help me. it is the only laptop I have.Comment

hi Mr RethoricalCheese, I am quite new and quite noob!
I bought an old HP ProBook 650 G1 from a shop that is selling used machines.
I could reinstall windows but then I wanted to access the BIOS and I could see it is protected by password.
I searched through the internet and the only procedure that is not involving unsoldering and reprogramming BIOS seems the one using SMC.bin file. I ended up in this thread. Could you help me get the SMC.bin file?

Once I have the file, the procedure I have to implement is the following?
1- create a USB drive called HP_TOOLS
2- copy the file SMC.bin inside
3- power on the PC pressing windows+arrowup+arrowdown+F10
4- select reset BIOS

Using SMC.bin files was stopped in 2019. Get yourself a programmer and clip or find somebody who has them. No other way.Comment

I ordered a new one with xeon, but is gen 2. I have an inverter generator that has two bad caps. One blew and the other was swollen.
My main issue is that the power supply
is encased in some type of epoxy.
My main concerns are regarding the epoxy and its purpose. I can imagine that it helps with vibration should I also be concerned with sparks since it's a gasoline generator?
The plan is to break off the old caps, cut the old legs off, clear out the solder points, then solder from the top since I cant get to the backside of the board.

My issue isn't massive, but I'd like to get this solved since I'm trying to fix a friend's laptop.
A botched BIOS update by Lenovo bricked this laptop, so I used my BIOS programmer to reflash the BIOS on it and saved it from an early demise. All is good now, but the BIOS reports the S/N, MTM and UUID...
