I have a Dell E6420 (with nVidia card). The A25 bios update (or the new asset tools) broke it. I have a lot of problem and I can't flash back through normal way.
Anyone know if the bios from @wallace80 works on the E6420 with the nVidia card?
Also, if I flash his bios, can I set myself my own service tag?
What about the LAN MAC Address. It is in the bios. Can I change it back to my original one?

What exactly is the problem?
I have the same laptop with an integrated graphics card. Before loading the OS, it displayed the error "ME is in Recovery State".
After I updated ME to one of the old versions - the error disappeared but also the Management Engine disappeared from the device manager. Now, when flashing any version of the BIOS, ME and EC firmware is no longer updated.
Now I'm trying to read my dump (I managed to unsolder the chips without disassembling the laptop) and add a clean ME region to it ...
hi! will this also fix my dell e6420 shutting down every 30 minutes?
What's the chipset - HM70? Add your Service Tag and motherboard number.

Sadly, I do not know what chipset you are exactly referring to. If you are referring to whether it's an Intel or Nvidia GPU embedded on it, it only has Intel HD 3000. Looking up the service tag I have doesn't show up Nvidia drivers so I suppose there's no Nvidia gpu in here. I have the 1600 x 900, no touch, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, i5-2540m
Using this guide. this shows up: Product SerialNumber Version
0K0DNP /5JKZ5R1/CN129611BC0CF6/ A02
so i hope that helps in identifying the motherboard number.
My service tag is: 5JKZ5R1
The things i tried to do are:
- Flashing various BIOS versions both via MSDOS and on Windows (A05, A08, A15, A24, A25)
- resetting CMOS (which i honestly think is no use since the cmos battery is dead, keeps resetting settings after i shut down the laptop and unplug ac, main battery is also broken too)
- swapping, reseating, trying one stick of ram
Which to no avail, still shuts down every 30 minutes
hello..do you remember what is the name of this disk or if actually exists ? I had bought several dell e6420 motherboards that are used and they came for first install setup, I mean you can re-write the service tag and some other specific data...and I was wondering if using that disk this is possible...
cheers..
