Ipad 5 (2017 A1822) Need help identifying component

    Hello all,

I have an ipad 5 that came in for home button repair. Issue fixed and return to the customer who then stated it also has battery/charge issues. The battery seemed fine however the ipad would acknowledge the charger every other time. The port looked fine but considering that it would work than not, I decided to change the port. Port changed and yet it draws zero amps. Removed the shield and found this burned component. Tried to find a board view but seems like the ipad 5 is the only ipad for which board views don't exist.

Yes I should have definitely done a visual inspection before anything but I am learning, the customer is my sister and this is an old ipad that they barely used so it's a good candidate to learn on.

If anyone has the board view or better yet help me identify this component that would be great. This burned component is causing a short on all the caps. Also if there is any advice or suggestions on what to check I am open to it all so please help me learn. Thank you all very much!!!

Looks like a coil to me which got too hot (because of the short you mention). That's the PMIC so many rails coming off that. If you have a short on that line, it's either the PMIC itself, or one of the caps on that rail. Thermal camera would save you buckets of time on this one.

I agree it looks like a coil, if it did not go open it could be ok. It may have had a the value printed on top at one time.

Thank you guys so much for all of this useful info. Thermal cam is too expensive at least for now but I do have rosin I can use.

Question, I changed the charging port without any issues or torn pads but this being my first one could that possible cause any of this? Should I leave it or remove it and check?

Honestly thank you all. Learning this is so hard at least for me and my only source was YouTube which is always so easy to watch till I get to my bench and feel like I'm at zero. Truly thank you!!!

mon2, would you be able to send me the schematic you have for this iPad. Since my last post I have continued to search and still cant find anything specifically for the 5. I also figured out that its not the coil lol.

Update to follow shortly as I just won a donor board on ebay.

The short is gone without me doing anything. While I was looking for a schematic/board view, the short fixed itself. I connected everything back up and it's working just fine.

This is great but not a fix. I don't want to seal it back up to find it not working in a day or two. I waited a day and still not short. This iPad had the screen replaced a few times and home button but I don't believe nor see any evidence of anyone touching the board.

Any suggestions on what to do?

I tried searching the forum for whether this has been uploaded already, but couldn't find them (as a collection).
Here's a dump of a bunch of iPads, I've split into 2 archives to get under file limit

Help Identifying board components - iMac 2017 21.5

                2017 iMac (Mid 2017) A1418

I'm not quite sure how this happened but a couple of components got ripped off the board when removing from the Logic Board from the iMac.

                Can anyone help identify them?

I'll have to do the trace repair on the board before soldering on replacements but would prefer to order the components rather than get a whole scrap logic board off eBay.
                Thank u

HP Pavilion 15 bc400ns - Complete Black Screen - Only video on live usb
                by iZakre
                Hello everybody!

To put you in context I recently replaced the battery from my HP Pavilion 15 bc400ns with a used one, everything was going good. The same day, I decided to update the BIOS, everything went good. The thing occurred after I let the battery drain iddling on Windows 11 for the second time to calibrate it that the screen did not turn on again, the computer was on but the screen did not turn, like it would not wake from hibernation. I decided to restart the computer but got no video.

The thing is that I had installed TeamViewer and could log into the computer...

Apple iPad Pro 3rd Generation 12.9" (A1876) No Power/Charge When Screen Is Connected
                by grimacelord
                Hello.

Working on an Apple iPad Pro 3rd Generation 12.9" that has a weird issue. When the display is NOT connected, the iPad will charge and power on normally. I know it's on because I can hear notification sounds and the charging notification sound.

If I connect a brand new display to the logic board, the iPad will not turn on at all. When I connect the iPad to an 18W wall charger and a USB-C ammeter, I can see that the iPad is attempting to charge, but constantly "resets" after just a moment or two.

For example, when I connect the iPad to...

iPad Air A1475 Boot loops after replacing battery
                by trepachka
This iPad was working fine except the battery was not holding charge for more than 40 minutes. I replaced it with a new battery. I haven't glued the battery yet, just inserted it into the slot and held it with battery screw.

The iPad was powered on with the new battery and I am getting white screen with Apple logo for about 10 seconds, then the screen turns dark. It then cycles like this forever.

I know the battery is working because the iPad continues to boot loop without the charger until it depletes to 0% and the message displays I need to plug in the charger.
