HP ZenBook 17 G4 not turning on

    Hi all,
I have here this laptop. When dc adapter is connected, led near dc port is ON and after power button is pressed nothing happend. 19v is present, 5v is on power button. I found PL39 shorted to ground 0.5ohm. But i don't know what voltage is this rail. I desolder PJP2 jumper and tried inject 1V from my power supply to find something hot but my power supply after repair can supply only 0.7A when voltage is set to 1V. (Of course when I short probes its only 0.7A) and this current is too low to heat bad component and I dont't have thermal camera.

Please have someone schematic or something what help me?

    Thanks

    Board is CPW70 LA-E171P Rev : 1.0

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode (2k scale).

Check resistance to ground for each coil on the board. You may have a faulty cap on the rail.

Checking for a low resistance reading (for example a few hundred ohms is considered low for some of the higher voltage rails like 3v3 / 5v0).

The CPU / GPU rails will be low voltage and low resistance is ok but post such findings.

You can use alcohol instead of a thermal camera - we do this all the time. The alcohol will mist up from the heat due to the excessive current draw.

Try not to inject voltage till more is known about the logic board as a bad short could kill the CPU / PCH (aka low voltage devices).

      Thanks for answer.
I measured it like that, I found only this rail with too low resistance and I also mean this is cap or something in short. And I know CPU/PCH/GPU power rails are lower in ohms, but this is too low.ANd I use alcohol sometime but with low current which can I deliver with my bad power supply (0.7A) is hard to find spot where is hot.. I need to know what this rail is, which voltage I can inject here, my power supply works fine in higher voltage like 2-3V only, when I have here 1V it not work..

        look at images

        PL39 is 3.3V

Thank you for the pictures. Problem is in CHipset. I check the whole board, chipset is hot.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Lowest possible resistance on laptop motherboard rail - Guide Table request
            by Nagy Daniel
Hi, I'm Daniel, and I'm new to the world of repairing motherboards.

I would like to create a table, or more likely a guideline about the voltage rails and their possible resistance rail.

I know that the motherboard design has a very big depend on the rail's resistance, but I would like to know what is the smallest value for a rail that can be acceptable. For example, I heard that some new gaming motherboards can have 0,5 Ohm resistance on the GPU rail, but on an older type, it could be a sign of a shorted GPU rail.

So, I generated a table with AI so I can...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
            by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...
