    try reflow or reball it.

ps: what is that mark on smc ? burn or some very small damage ?
at the begining all measurements drive me to the same direction and I start to reball SMC, first of all, because I didn't find water damage / no liquid ... after SMC reball no change, same voltages ...

I clean SMC now, it was dirty

ok for that. measure all coil after inserting psu only ( no battery) check if some s4 s3 s0 volts comes.

      volts on L5001 ?

        L5001 3,44v

        no voltage on coils ...
        s5 has 0,54v

I notice that, do you know from where start
          PPBUS_G3H and PPBUS_G3H_R

          I see also D7005 pin 1 with 1.75v = PPBUS_G3H_R
          pin 2 and 3 15v

I don't find any short ... u7501 is responsable to make 8v voltage?

            Re: MacBook Air a1466 820-00165-a doesn't start

on the other page u write:
            D7005 pin 2 and 3 15v and pin 1 8v
            R7006 8v both sides
            R7005 15v both sides

8.5 volts are made by u7100.
edit: remove f7140 and measure voltage on f7140 pads.

              Re: MacBook Air a1466 820-00165-a doesn't start

              as per @dellxps15's comments

PPBUS_G3H is made by U7100 - sheet 50/76 pdf schematics.
              F7140, pin # 1. 8.22v
              But pin 2 of F7140 is not 8v22 ??

Then F7140 is blown / tripped. If yes, why did this happen ?

Remove all power, meter in resistance (ohms) mode, black lead on ground & red lead on F7140, pin 2.

What is the reading in ohms ? If the reading is too low in ohms then you most likely have a bad / shorted cap (assuming there is no soldering or damaged part from liquid) issue.

                    Very nice!

                    https://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/en/USB3740

It is a USB signal switch so that a single port can mate with 2 different USB devices. Like a DPDT switch.

hi there i don't know if i am allowed to post on the same thread or not, i have same issue, the reason why i am quoting here is that i have measured all pp3v42_g3h and every where i do get 3.42v but l5001 pin 1 there is 0v

i am trying to understand is this smc issue, i have the exact same board

                      regards

That is a very good observation !

Indeed there should be 3v42 present on pin #1 of L5001.

Remove all power / no battery.

Meter in resistance mode (2k scale is ok). Use the meter to check for continuity between a known good PP3V42_G3H point and pin # 1 of L5001.

You should see ~0 ohms between the 2 test points. If you see OL = over limit then there is most likely a damaged via or trace so the voltage is not reaching L5001.

After this confirmation, consider to take a piece of wire from a known good source for the PP3V42_G3H rail and solder it onto the pin #1 of L5001 to make up for the broken connection.

Confirm the continuity with the meter and then proceed to test again with your power adapter.

                        Post your results.

so i measured in quit a few places with a good pp3v42 and i am getting red probe pin 1 l5001 3.50 kΩ

do i still proceed with the wire?

also to add board draws 20v 3 amp

the only thing on thermal camera which shows is u7100 but i have changed this with a new one, i have about 10 spare new ones

i don't understand 2 boards with same thing showing on thermal camera both faulty

The use of an original magsafe power supply is recommended as it does a soft start and is safer to use than a power supply with the magsafe head.

If you are confident there no heated parts then it should be fine to consider the missing wire. You do not have a short @ L5100 with such a high resistance to ground. L5001 should have the PP3V42_G3H voltage on pin #1 so suspecting a blown via from one side of the board to the other or damaged trace due to liquid damage.

After applying the missing wire / connection -> check with the meter in resistance mode to confirm the connection is good and is also the same ~0 ohms on L5001, pad # 2. This rail powers the SMC (U5000) which is very critical.
