    MacBook Air a1466 820-00165-a doesn’t start

    Hi

MacBook Air A1466 after put in sleep mode doesn't want to wake/start

Tested new battery, charger, case and charging board.. no short and no heat…
Battery charging, when is not fully charger I see orange led on charger after a while it turn to green…

    No liquid found inside…

    Found on J7000 pin 1 and 2 I have 15v
    On pin 3 voltage missing 0.03v …

Checked all ic no short and no heat…
Tested flex and board on other computer and they work…

    Anyone had this problem?

Could be keyboard / power on button issue.

Try to short the power ON pads on the logic board to test this idea.

See here for the location of the pads - you can use tweezers.

    https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...er-on.1735518/

If this does not work, power down -> remove the keyboard and trackpad and attempt to turn on the logic board again using only the PCB pads to bypass the power switch.

Keyboard power button works, tested other board…

Board I have it on desk, as I know if battery it’s removed and I plug power supply it start automatically, tested on second one , that works…

      J7000 has on pin 3 5v on working one… on not working I have 0v on pp5v_s4rs3 rail…
      Reballed smc and isl ic…

        1) pp5v_s4rs3 is generated by U7501.

        2) power down, meter in resistance mode. Black lead on ground.

Red lead on L7520, pin 2 - what is the resistance in ohms ?

        3) Meter in volts mode, black lead on ground.

Red lead on R7551 = P5VS4RS3_EN. Reading in volts ?

        4) Meter in volts mode, black lead on ground.

        Red lead on PP3V3_S5_REG_R, L7560 - pin 2 - reading in volts ?

          2) I don't have a stable value, starting from 900 and it arrive at 2000 then stops…

          3) it has 0.03v

          4) 0.53v

            Re: MacBook Air a1466 820-00165-a doesn't start

            1) Check on both sides of R7551 = P5VS4RS3_EN for the voltage.

With the low voltage for P5VS4RS3_EN, the voltage rail is DISABLED.

            2) Also, the other half of the same IC is not generating the expected PP3V3_S5_REG_R.

Check if it is enabled by reading the voltage on R7552, both legs of this resistor. If it is also low, then this rail will remain disabled.

            3) post the voltages for the attached locations.

              3) all locations have 0v, I think rail it's disabled ...

                Post the values for:

                1) PPBUS_S5_HS_OTHER_ISNS - this input rail must match the voltage on PPBUS_G3H as it is required to feed into U7501.

                2) PPBUS_G3H

                3) If the INPUT @ PPBUS_S5_HS_OTHER_ISNS is ok and U7501 is being enabled (R7552 = logic high = +3v3 - or close to this value) then PP3V3_S5_REG_R should be +3v3. But it is not.

                4) pin 24 = P3V3_S5_DRVH of U7501

                5) pin 27 = P3V3_S5_DRVL of U7501

                6) power down / remove battery - confirm the resistance to ground on L7560, pin # 2.

                If

                PPBUS_S5_HS_OTHER_ISNS
                P3V3S5_EN_R
                pin 24_U7501
                pin 27_U7501

voltages are ok then issue could be a damaged mosfet @ Q7560 which is not switching or a shorted cap downstream causing an excessive current event.

A common failure is the switching IC @ U7501 = TPS51980A. Very inexpensive on Aliexpress.

                  1) 1.35v without battery and 8.10v with battery

                  2) 1.35v without battery and 8.20v with battery

                  3) correct R7552 has 3.3v and PP3V3_S5_REG_R 0v

                  4) 0.57v

                  5) 0v

I have an damaged board 820-2375-A I will try to find if has something compatible with this mosfet and ic

PPBUS_G3H is not high enough for this local regulator to function. This is a buck regulator so it takes a higher input voltage and lowers it to the desired voltages.

Trace PPBUS_G3H back to the source and check that power rail. This rail must be higher with the adapter installed.

ok someone already touched smc as it doesnt have glue on its sides.
                                        try reflow or reball it.

ps: what is that mark on smc ? burn or some very small damage ?
