MacBook pro 13" mid 2017 A1708 dead cpu?!

    Hi,

I have a strange issue with a macbook pro.It works fine for 1-2h and after that is dead unles i leave it to rest for a long period of time. This could be concludent with a heat related issue...but the only thing heating up is the CPU.I use "hwsensors" for temperatures display and "macs fan control" for turning the fan up to keep the device cooler.I have tried to turn the fan all the way up but to no avail,as the issue persists.

So,when the strange occurs, the screen goes blank and stops responding to any command.I can still see the backlight but no picture on sight. If i keep the power button pressed the backlight dissapears and the fans go silent, but the CPU remains hot unless i disconnect the battery.I doesn't matter the key combination or if i perform pram reset, smc reset or anything, the sistem does not start unless i leave it to rest for at least 5-6 h.

When i start the macbook again after a long period of patience,i get a message that informs me about the OS crash and the issue points panic(cpu 0 caller).

I have measured the voltage to cpu, ram, ssd and is fine,I tried another ssd, battery and display, fresh os install but still the same.

Is there any possibility that the cpu is not dead and there might be another reason for this issue?

There is no water damage, mechanical shock or anything. The laptop was used in an office for daily common tasks and the issues started suddenly after about 2 years of usage.

    Thanks!

Have you attempted to apply fresh heatsink compound on the CPU?

That was my first thing to do,and the thermal compound was good enough...i've seen worse.

I will check the temperature with an arduino tomorrow to see if the reported temperature matches the one checked externally.

The temperatures are somewhat close but a little higher than reported, but i have found another interesting thing...if i remove the battery,no more heathing up and no more errors.

I will see if i can get another battery to test...but in the meantime it works just fine with the power adapter connected.

        Has anyone seen something similar?

          Macbook a1707 2017 model 820-00928 GPU issue
          by sofles
          Hello there

I have problem with Macbook Pro 15" 2017, model 2017, MB code 820-00928.

I bought it as broken with some artefacts on the screen, first I thought that this is problem with ribbon cable but after inspectiing ribbon cable I know it is fine. I tried to reinstall macOs and then I figured out that this must be something with GPU as installation freezes at the end (when drivers are loaded). I installed Windows and was able to install every each of drivers except GPU driver, as soon as I tried to install GPU driver - black screen and restart.

          MacBook Pro 2018 - A1990 Dead - not charging - only 5V
          by robka
          Hi,

          my MacBook Pro 15" 2018 Touch Bar (A1990) doesn't charge anymore. Board# 820-01041-A

I'm not experienced in diagnostics, but I want to try to solve the problem with your help, because every local shop charges around 600€ (650 usd). Which is the value of the whole Macbook.

The Macbook was charging when suddenly the "charging sound" appeared every other second for around 4-5 times.
After that the Macbook was dead. It isn't charging anymore.

The USB-C Port where the charger was plugged is burned. Also The Cable and the...

          Fit 820-00244-А board in Apple Macbook A1534 2017 820-00687-А
          by stefanbs
The laptop is Apple Macbook A1534 2017 with board 820-00687-А. The USB-C tester shows no voltage, there is 820-00244-А board available. I looked at both schematics, all connector signals seem to be the same. Did someone try to fit 820-00244-А board in A1534 2017?

MacBook Pro 2011 turns on with keyboard light , screen dead
          by Rav_tangle
Hi all , thanks for having me & I think this has been asked before but my case seems a bit odd.
I have a MacBook Pro , board 820-2915a and it turns on , chimes etc etc , keyboard lights up, fans spins , can turn caps lock on/off but screen is dead.
Iv tried the resets , shine torch through back logo , nothing , it seems the screen has no power. If I plug charger , it charges but if I disconnect battery it displays green light but won't turn on. Iv tried screen on with another board & it works & seems I'm not getting any voltage at pin 2 , next to ground pin .
          is this...

Macbook Pro 13'' 2017 A1708 Won't power on with battery connected.
          by platinumsteel
Hi guys i have a 820-00840 that works fine and boots up as long a battery is not connected. I initially thought it was a bad battery so i went ahead and bought a new battery for it and slapped it in yesterday and realize that the same fault exists. When i screw in the battery and connect the little battery strip and i press the power button it will not power on.At that time If i connect the charger i get fan spin for 10 seconds then stops but the machine won't power on.If i disconnect the little battery strip and re-plug the charger the machine boots as normal. It's not the battery connector strip...
