HP 840 G1 No power... as such

    Good afternoon all.
    I have a customers HP 840 G1 with a 6050A2559101-MB-A03 mainboard.
Symtoms are, plug in the charger, power LED gives a quick flash, press power, power/mute/ wifi LED's come on after approx 10 secs, they all stay on for about 5 sec's then laptop powers down. Initial inspection shows no liquid damage.
Thus far I have reflashed the BIOS and EC with the files supplied here:-https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=55509 posts 6 & 8.
I have started to trouble shoot in case there is a short and found there is no power going past Q6012. Removed Q6012, tested for a short and it reads O.L resistance to ground on both sides, DIODE mode pins 1-3 are 0.5443v but pins 6-8 are 0.1833v which to me on a 19.5v line is to low. So I suspect a partial short on the 19.5v rail..... and thats where I am now stuck.
I know I will get b*llocked for this but as a temp measure I jumped pins 1-3 with 6-8 on Q6012 just to get voltage down to Q6050 but still have the same results.
I also followed what was listed to be tested on this thread
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...2559101-mb-a03
    and got these results:
    SIO Pin 74= 3.59v Pin 84= 3.25v
    Pins 85=0
    pins 38=0.4v
    pins 81=0
    pins 73 = 0.365v not pressed 0.007 pressed
    pins 4-0

    Resistance to ground L6750 = 29 ohms L6600= 177 ohms.

5v is correct tested on L6150
    3.40v is on L6100.

What I have also noticed the current sense resistor which i belive is R6000 is reading 4.43 ohms in circuit and 3.2ohms out of circuit, the schematic shows it as being 0.01 ohms. the marking on the resistor is 10 and when I checked it is a 10 ohm resistor.

Just to add, on the second post its mentioned about the PCH. The PCH is not warming up when I get the 5 secs of power but the CPU does show a quick increase of heat under a themal camera.

I have attached the schematic I am using just in case someone needs it for reference.

    Any help is greafully received...

Be sure that you use a 90W adapter .
      What's the voltage at Q6011 and q6012 (D/G/S )
      U6000 Pin 1/2/6/20

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
        by PantherDave
        Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

        Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
        by GLISIT
        Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

        by Victor Moreira Silva
        Hello everyone,

I'm trying to repair my old Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54-55T5). I've already bought a new laptop, so this is more of a learning project. For the experience, with no high expectations of success.

Well, my decice specs are the following:

        Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-55T5
        CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H
        GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
        Motherboard: GH51G LA-L181P Rev:1c

        The symptom:
When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up for about 5 seconds and then turns off. Initially, the issue was intermittent: sometimes...
