    X556UJ ver.2 laptop mainboard dead

    Hello ,

I'm trying to repair X556UJ ver.2 laptop mainboard. Board came with damaged USB 3.0 connector that I have desoldered, but board is dead, no led is on.
I have boardview and some repair guide for version 1.0 and I have 3.3v on power button.
I have measured some voltages on first regulator and I have +3va, +5va , this is the only heating element and on pin 14 +5VSUS voltage is 0V.
On battery connector rtc_ldo 3.3v is 2.8v, and on SIO ec_on is 3.3V. On the BIOS leg 8 is giving only 1.0V . PS_ON voltage is OK, but ME_AC_PRESENT is 0.2V
I have measured all the big coils with ground and the lowest resistance is on +3VADSWO - 1.5ohm and on +1VSUSO - 0.4ohm. Only coil that have voltage is P_CHG_SENSE that is 0.4V.
No fet seems to be damaged, and there is no change if I press power button, the board is taking only 50mA.
I have no idea if it is the heating regulator or something else, can you help me ?

    Thanks.

Sounds like a dead PCH, inject 3V on +3VADSWO, if the PCH heats up, it's dead.

Before injecting tell me on the regulator chip is it ok 3VADSWO_EN and 5VSUS_EN to have same voltage 3.23V because I think on 5VSUS_EN pin it should be 5V, am I right?
Here it is the boardview I'm using(only some parts are missing on my version, but position of parts i same)

If I desolder PJP8704 then +3VADSWO and +5VSUS get 3.3V and 5V. So probably regulator PU8701 even it heats a little, it gets all the signal and give output. What to do next, any help??

Post#2, piernov has already answered. Why not inject voltage to find out for yourself. I too think its dead pch. Very often if anything goes wrong in usb on soc platform, the soc gets killed.

Ok I injected 3V and the PCH is heating
            Thanks

Because PCH is unchangable is there any way to cut some line that is going to PCH usb 3 regulator and get partly working motherboard without usb ???
Also is there some table what different motherboard model is nearly compattible with this chassis ???

NM-C931 mainboard, does not start, no light, no nothing. Draws 20.56 V / 0.14 A from a wall charger.

Under thermal camera, the only thing that show is the ThinkEngine chip (BD4179MWV / UTE1B) heating up (also quite hot to the touch), there's 19.75 V on the VREGIN20 (pin 45).

                  Is the BD4179 dead? WDYT?

                  Thank you....

MASTER TL240 and new mainboard LW36BKC01
                  by orcic
                  Hello,
I have an old MASTER TL-240 LED TV. Since it stopped working and it had a DVB-T receiver that is being dismissed in Italy, I've decided to replace the mainboard with a DVB-T2 one.
The original problem was that when switching on the TV, the power LED was transitioning from red to steady blue, without showing video or audio.
After checking some voltages on the power supply board (HKL-240101-B Rev. 1.4, HKL from now on) someone suggested me to replace the mainboard.
Now I have some doubts about how to connect the new mainboard to the old power supply.
                  First of...

Vizio M43-C1 - How closely do I need to match the mainboard number?
                  by Devonavar
I have a Vizio M43-C1 stuck in a reboot loop with no backlight.

I've tested all the voltage rails coming out of the power supply and they are "normal" for this model (PS_ON & DIM go high when turned on, BL_ON & 3D_ON are close to zero due to backlight power flowing through the mainboard, 5VSB is 5V, and 12V is 19V, which is apparently normal for this board).

Basically, I get similar results to Garry in this post: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80346

So, I've ruled out the PSU for now.

                  The reboot loop...

                  Chieftec GPS-450-AA with dead 20N60C3
                  by zunasthegreat
Hello everyone hope all doing well!
I have this PSU (GPS450-AA delta oem) around for like 4-5 years and I had it recapped early 2020 or 2021 with mostly UCC KY and Nichicon PW's. The bulk was and still is fine, the original Ltec's were bloated and empty. The previous issue was some major coil whine noise and at times random shutdowns when going idle. Today it started tripping the mains breaker and I think I have dead APFC mosfets (20N60C3). Right now upon checking I have the Q1 and Q3 FETs dead so far and I guess those are responsible for the PFC circuit. The only thing I care is If there...

                  Finding a dead short component
                  by Beton
                  Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...
