Dell Latitude 5570 Ambient thermal sensor reading -127 Degrees C
    by Gcnewbie
Forgive me this is my first request for help on this forum, so if i've screwed up or not followed the rules i should have i apologise profusely.

I have a Dell Latitude 5570 that was randomly shutting down, on further investigation i found that the machine had been shutting down due to thermal events as noted by windows event viewer.
My investigations lead me to the dell diagnostics screen, where i found that there were two sensors out of range which had been causing the shutdowns, one of which was the GPU thermal sensor and the other the ambient sensor.
    I opened the...

Laptop overheating after replacement thermal paste
    by Veyron7887
Hi. I have Asus X55C laptop from year 2013. It has i3-2328M CPU. I replaced stock thermal paste with high quality thermal paste. Before thermal paste replacement, I measured CPU temperature Around 65-70 degrees Celcius with stock thermal paste. If after the replace thermal paste, I measured CPU temperature around 80-84 degrees Celcius and fan don't stop when system is idle. I replaced the thermal paste several times but still did not change. Where is the problem?

    Denon AVR-S740H thermal shutdown help
    by ajvpb
The culprit - A new to me Denon AVR-S740H. Protection history shows 60 instances of thermal detector (A) shutdown.

Powering it up for a few minutes and it gets noticeably warm on the bottom of the case where the +12, -12, +5 voltage regulators are. After 20 minutes I would call it hot, and approaching too hot to keep your hand on that part of the case. So the thermal detection is doing its job and not tripping erroneously.

The heat is clearly coming from the small voltage regulators that use the case as a heat sink. It has a bridge rectifier that converts the AC...

    Can thermal paste cause corrosion?
    by caspian
    Dear members,

I have got an ordinary gray thermal paste that has no name/model on the box.
I put some of this thermal paste on a 128-pin QFP IC. A bit of this thermal paste was put on pins of the IC.
I tried to clean the pins by thinner but the thermal paste cannot be cleaned from the pins properly. because the pins are tiny and the thermal paste is stuck between them.
Is it possible that the thermal paste damages pins of the IC in long term by creating corrosion or something?
Is it safe to leave the thermal paste on the pins?
    I guess the thermal paste...

    A1466 820-00165 intermittent shutdown
    by cruiser_
    hi there,

Got this macbook after liquid damage. Nothing major, cleaned and reflowed what was suspect. Now, the laptop turns on and boots up but shuts off intermittently - sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours.
Can be immediately started from keyboard right after. Plug stays orange during this time. No battery.

    Gives shutdown cause -128.

Seem to work fine in SMC bypass.

Same shutdown happens with disconnected TP/KB/KBLED/CAM.

    Observations:
    - SMC_RESET_L - when pulled down - plug goes orange/green and...
