    Dell xps 13 9343 - dead

I have a DELL XPS 13 9343 that I've been using for almost six years now and it finally decided to bite the dust on me yesterday. It does not try to power on at all... I get no light on the power button when pressed. I'm not sure if this is a common failure on these, but can someone tell me what the chip is that is burnt up in my picture? I want to say it was marked T or P 070 or Q70 (on the PCB)? The chip totally burned up so I can't read the markings on the top of it. I don't have a schematic for this as I don't normally repair this kind of stuff... I repair arcade PCBs in my collection that is about it. I do have a hot air rework station so it would be fun to try and replace the chip and see if it fires up. The laptop is in great shape and everything was working well up until I could smell it burning so I'd hate to junk it if it can be saved.

Any pointers would be appreciated, thanks!

Ok, so I was thinking... well it didn't try and power up yesterday with the power supply not connected. I tried just now unplugged and also plugged in and it fires up, but I can see a faint Dell logo so maybe that chip has something to do with the turning on the LCD backlight?

edit: and someone posted the schematic as I was typing this up... I'll take a look at it, thanks SMDFlea!

This is the switch that controls the screen's backlight inverter, Q70, AO4407AL.

Yes this means your display is okay, it just has no backlight. Remove the transistor and make _sure_ the 19v rail that goes to the matrix isn't shorted.

I'll look at the schematics and see if I can find that rail... I've never tried to troubleshoot something like this so hopefully I can find the rail...

It looks like the part that died is a AO4407AL_SO8 MOSFET from looking at the schematics.

Can I just check the power/ground legs of the MOSFET once I remove it to check for 19v there?

The transistor itself is dead, no two questions about it. You'd want to check its pad for shorts on both source and drain sides, yes. To do that, make sure the matrix is connected. If you connect or disconnect the matrix, make sure the battery is disconnected first. You should see some resistance on this rail.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
                by double_DD
                Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

                Dell Inspion 7610 bios chip
                by ed1i
Hello, I'm looking for bios chip on the motherboard on Dell Inspiron 7610. Server tag: CS4MDL3. I found on the back on the motherboard chip named: Winbond 25Q256JVEQ. Is it the right bios chip for this motherboard? I need to flash new bios on the chip, because it's stuck in infinity reboots. Is it possible this chip to be read AsProgrammer 25Q256JV option and ch341a programmer?...

                Need help id'ing chip on a Dell g15 5515
                by donnietr
                Hello all,
I have this dell g15 Ryzen Edition 5515. Board GDL56 LA-K453p. It had liquid damage when i bought it. Cleaned it up really well and then used thermal camera to see what got hot.
Found the power pdw1 and pdw2 under the graphics card were getting hot. Pdw2 was hottest, i had a similiar chip on another board so i put it on this board.
The other chip is now hot as well, which it was to begin with.
Thats the problem as i dont know what to call it, like is it a mosfat? or what?
I will attach a picture of both the boardlabel and of the area with the chips....

Dell G3 3579 BIOS chip ID
                by ezenia
                Hello,

I bought a Dell G3 3579 eBay. The fault was not mentioned and it did not come with charger. Before trying to power off battery, I did some basic checks on the coils (in resistance mode) to see if there was any short. None were reading short. Decided to power the board to see if anything happened. The keyboard backlight came on. About 5 seconds later, the fans begin spinning at max speed. The white LED comes on at this time, stays solid for a bit and goes off. Fans continue to spin at max. Display is black (no backlight). If I hold down power button, board goes off. I did give...
