random BIOS issue HP 820 G3

I posted the question in another thread but believe the right one is this. I am experiencing a random issue.
I replaced the bios password blocked chip (W25Q128) with a flashed one I got on the web. The notebook updated FW and worked for quite some time then suddenly did not not started anymore. I think something crashed into the BIOS (spinning fan...no screen). So I took the original chip, flashed with cleared original FW (unlocker tool did a good job). PC back to work, FW updated...then again a couple of months...same issue. Spinning fan and no screen. Again took the other chip, flashed with saved dump...updated FW and back to work.
After last update I flashed both chips with same dump and they are ok. PC works with both chips. So chips are fine and dump is fine (I swapped many times to check them).
The chip is not soldered on the MB as I soldered a specific clip adapter to easily replace the chip. I wonder what the issue could be of this random crash from the bios. Any suggestion?

Bad batteries might cause random issues. Both main battery and clock battery.

Hi, thanks for your kind reply. I am pretty sure both batteries are ok. And it happened just after switching on the PC while connected to home AC socket.

Hmm, did not read the last line. When did you solder on the clip adapter? If before the issues started, that might be the problematic part. I have had problems with those before.

As long as the original chip (pw blocked) was soldered I never had the issue.
The issue started after installation of adapter. I thought about this being the problem. But again I checked the soldering with the motherboard and they looks very good. The adpater is a good quality and good connections between pads and adpater are in place. I will check again the chip pads, clean and smooth pads wit very fine sandpaper. I will not solder back the chip as it is a wson package with large center pad and took me a while to remove it and I donot want to ruin the motherboard. I will check again and report.

With adapters like these, it always seems to have a good connection but... Not really. I would ditch the adapter and solder that bios chip.

Just rethink about what you can do to make it easier.

That board handles plenty of heat. I have 400-420C with max airflow on my hot air station and the solder heats up in quick. Maybe 10 seconds max, no problem. Just remove the bios battery while you do it.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion and to encourage me to solder back the chip.
I have the hot air station but I am always scared about giving too much heat
BTW I cleaned with extrafine sandpaper the pads...sprayed with some electrical spray. Let us see what happens.
If it happens again ...chip will be soldered.

Alienware Aurora R15 accidentally flashed with XPS 8960 BIOS
                by drux
                Hi,
I've had an ssd that was previously used on dell xps 8960 and then it was installed in Alienware Aurora R15(intel version). On first windows boot in R15 windows started bios update and loaded bios for xps 8960(r15 and xps8960 essentially have same motherboards).

Now it has xps 8960 bios that looks different from alienware bios and when I'm trying to run bios update files for R15, I get unsupported platform error.

                These models have AMI/Aptio BIOS.

Tried to edit product info with DMI Edit to change values back to Alienware R15, but it does not want...

Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100 - BIOS Issue, Black Screen
                by wizard13
                Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a BIOS-related issue with my Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100. When I power on the laptop, the screen stays black, and there is no response from the system. I suspect a corrupted BIOS.

I have checked the forum and the available documentation but could not find a solution specific to my issue.

                Issue wtih [crisis] BIOS recovery
                by SGVsbG8sIHdvcmxkIQ
                Hi,

BIOS update bricked my laptop - after restart the was a prompt to Proceed with ROM flash or Abort. None of 2 options worked - upon restart the same prompt shown.

I downloaded [BIOS update].exe file from Lenovo Support > extracted [firmware descriptor].fd file > renamed it to [correct crisis file name].bin.

With crisis file on USB drive the Proceed with ROM option launches recovery - after displaying the current and the new BIOS version, the process terminated immediately with validation error:

Not allow flash. Boot Guard version verification...

Thinkpad W541 (20EG) Q1, weird behavior after SPI flashing (3 flashes of power button LED)
                by dj-bobr
                Hi,
I kindly ask for help with Thinkpad BIOS/ME repair.
Thinkpad W541 board bought from Aliexpress, so I have no service tag nor S/N. It is 1GB version Q1 (K1100 nVidia GPU). BIOS 2.23, EC 1.13, ME 9.1.32.1002.
It worked fine until I tried to remove whitelist.

                Steps taken:
                - battery out, CMOS coin cell out, laptop disassembled; I kept LAN/USB subboard connected
                - i took SPI programmer (CH341A with 3.3V mod) and SOIC clip and did a full backup of all SPI flash chips (SPI1 and SPI2 - BIOS, EC, ME, GbE; SPI3 - video BIOS; SPI4 - Thunderbolt fw) for several...
