Hi, well I will spent some money to get a new MB just for fun, I found the proper model/version MB. My understanding is that I will "simply" remove the old MB, reinstall the new one and make all connections. I assume that the boot procedure will "recognize" connected basic hardware....SSD, RAM, screen, keyboard and maybe a tuning of BIOS as well as BIOS update could be necessary....

Hi, I checked the SD slot, unfortunately it is my fault. I pulled out an SD card adaptor that was blocked into the slot. The internal contacts are damaged. I am quite confident with electronics so sure about damage not possible to be fixed. I searched the replacement part but it looks like it is not available, it is actually soldered to the MB. As said it is not a big issue as I can use USB card adaptor but it would make me happy to have it working. MB cost is not so prohibitive to me...just for fun.
The image is taken frome the web...but it it the same. You can see where the SD card slot...

Dell E7450 - LA-A963P motherboard damage and replacement
Hi all, I damaged the SD card slot of my notebook, it is not a big issue but I would like to have it back to work. I realized there is no spare part so I have to take a new motherboard. Not so expensive so I can make it. A few questions as I found a new MB on aliexpress.
I believe the procedure is:
- remove the old MB;
- install the new one;
- install my SD disk back.
Is this correct...what about the BIOS? Will the notebook start correctly or it will be necessary some other software/BIOS procedure?
Thank you for any help.

Re: toshiba AC adapter
I guess so but I just cleaned the board nothing else. Caps are mounted correctly. I am aware about polarity.
Ok do not know how to measure ESR...multimeter is ok?. I will double check for bridges.
Maybe it is an effect by the pictures but I can assure caps are not bilged at all.
Can I test with one single cap of 1000mF instead of those two?...Last edited by vince59; 05-14-2020, 03:19 PM.

Re: toshiba AC adapter
Hey, there are two pics in the opening post of tboth sides of the board.
By the way I think it is dead...I visually inspected the capcitors and they are not bulged. I removed the two small close to DC exit, they are 560mF 25V and the multimeter gives a reading of 650mF each one.
I put them back but now tha adapter blows the fuse.
I think it is on the way to the garbage bin...but I would like to fix it to learn and better understand about AC adapters!

Re: bios chip flashing...which file?
Thank you very much for your clear explanation that made me understand the whole process. I see the full bios dump inlcudes specific information that, off course, are not included in the bios release update.
I guess if specific information, model related, are missing or mismatching the pc will not work...

Re: bios chip flashing...which file?
Thanks for your useful answer. I am just trying to understand how it works.
So assuming I have lost my chip and do not have the dump...what is the procedure to build the bios file to flash?
You can keep the example to the HP for better undertstanding. I know they provide the exe file to install, but if we take it out the burned chip and mount a new one will the exe file work?...I do not think so....

bios chip flashing...which file?
it is a general question about bios chip flashing. Let us assume that I want to flash a chip to replace a broken/unreadable chip.
Not having a dump to flash, what file should I flash into the chip?
As an example, I realized with my HP elitebook with BIOS W25Q128 that the bin file downloaded from the vendor/producer site is 8 MB while the dump or file to flash is 16MB.
So my question is...how do I understand which file to flash into a bios chip?
Thank you for you help.

Re: random BIOS issue HP 820 G3
Thanks a lot for your suggestion and to encourage me to solder back the chip.
I have the hot air station but I am always scared about giving too much heat
BTW I cleaned with extrafine sandpaper the pads...sprayed with some electrical spray. Let us see what happens.
If it happens again ...chip will be soldered.

Re: random BIOS issue HP 820 G3
As long as the original chip (pw blocked) was soldered I never had the issue.
The issue started after installation of adapter. I thought about this being the problem. But again I checked the soldering with the motherboard and they looks very good. The adpater is a good quality and good connections between pads and adpater are in place. I will check again the chip pads, clean and smooth pads wit very fine sandpaper. I will not solder back the chip as it is a wson package with large center pad and took me a while to remove it...
