    Laptop Keyboard and Touchpad Compatibility

    Dear Technicians,

If we consider different laptop models of the same brand or different brands, and if we see their Keyboard (or Touchpad) connectors are pin-compatible, can we exchange their Keyboards (or Touchpads) for testing purposes?

note: Regardless of size/shape of their Keyboards (or Touchpads).

Sometimes, we need this testing when Keyboard (or Touchpad) of the same model is not available. Have anyone tested like this?

    Thanks

Re: Laptop Keyboard and Touchpad Compatibility

It creates more confusion rather then clearing the doubt. Every mb is designed in a different way. Say There are 4 pins on a touch pad on laptop X with a sequence like PIN1-3v, PIn 2-5v, PIN3-5v and Pin 4-GND. Not necessarily, the other laptop mb will have same seqence on pins-It may be say PIn 3 is gnd. So what happens when you test?? It may be you damage a good t.pad and feel like its not working as the noumber of pins and pin spacing are same and t.pad looks identical. So not a worthy idea to try. Others may differ in opinion but thats my view.

Re: Laptop Keyboard and Touchpad Compatibility

What about the case where all pins of the touchpad connectors of Laptop X and Laptop Y have the same name and number and are fully compatible?
Have anyone tried to check whether the touchpad of Laptop X works fine if connecting to Laptop Y?
What about exchanging keyboard between Laptop X and Y if their keyboard connectors are fully compatible both in name and number?

Yeah, I've done it a few times on HP and Dell.

          Laptop external keyboard?
          by Hondaman
Can I use an external keyboard with a modern (as of this post) laptop from, say, Dell?

I am worried about durability because I am a cheap, frugal person. I suspect an external keyboard would extend the life of the laptop. I have always been a desktop person, since my AMD 386DX-40, and I really don't know about laptops (though the current Dell products look like they are fanless, which eliminates a big failure point).

(Also I prefer the "clicking" "Unicomp" keyboard, which is still made an hour or two away from me in Lexington KY, using the same equipment...

Macbook A1706 touchpad and keyboard not working. Please help
          by B2L_Repairs
Hi guys i am new to macbook repairs (i mostly do microsoldering on iphones and android devices. I need your assistance with macbook a1706 (touchbar edition) that came in without touchpad and keyboard functionality. External keyboard and mouse does work but the keyboard and touchpad on the macbook does not work. I changed the touchpad flex, also replaced the touchpad but the issue persisted. I then measured voltage on the board and found that PIN 44-50 of the touchpad connector (J4501) got 11.2V instead of 12.6V. Those pins required 12.6v and they get their 12.6v from PPVIN_S4-TPAD_FUSE . I measure...
