any way to tell cpu or gpu is dead or solder joints cracked?

well the title is already a question...is there any way to tell cpu or gpu (inegrated) is completely dead or solder joints cracked?
For example i was trying to repair one laptop and finally using ddr3 tester i found that cpu solder joints are cracked..because when i pressure the cpu towards the motherboard in some point the lights were on on ddr3 tester, but without pressure some lights were off indicating that something is wrong between cpu-memory comunication... so i reball it and now its fine...but what about gpu and other cpu but without ddr and other tester? is there any way of telling for sure that either dead cpu/gpu is dead or cracked in solder joints?

    Thank you!

Solder joints on heat sinks matter?
    by jm1234
    Hi,
solder joints on heat sinks - how much do they matter? Could poor joints on heat sink cause issues if they are not properly joining to hot ground?
I'm looking at power source module of Panasonic plasma TV and I see many of these having visually poor quality, but could they matter? In general I would guess no, but I saw a video where someone was stressing out the importance of tightening the screws when fastening the power source board specifically for the ground to be connected properly.
    Thanks

    x1 Carbon Gen 9 HYG60\HX4B0 NM-D341 Rev: 1.0, CSD87501L Failed solder Joints.

I had a x1 Carbon Gen 9 come in with a no charge and no USB C power up problem (the machine would turn on with a new battery until it lost charge).
I noticed lifting the protective black membrane near the USB jacks that two little BGA chips were stuck to the adhesive and had fully released from the mother board, one of them looking fully scorched. Q261 and Q263 power MOSFETS.

I found the schematic and diagram for the board here.

Samsung UN65NU6950 edge lit TV LED bar after 10k usage hours
    by howardc64
Edge lit LED TV has 1/4 section backlight out. Replaced the LED bars and sharing the findings on the original 10k hour LED bar.

These are 6V LEDS (reads ~5.4+ on my LED tester) New bars read about 147V per 1/2 of each bar. Clearly original LED bar has some problems
    • One section is 153v with a dead LED so clearly built up resistance
    • One section flickers but magically fixed itself after driving individual LEDs. All done with an LED tester so don't know if would work driven by PSU backlight circuit and how long it would last
    • Connector pin to test pad resistance is nearly 0 ohms.

Best way to solder LVDS connector for beginner (and qfn) ?
    by corrize
Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).
    See the test :

With hot air from bellow the board, that's...

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR - Dell Inspiron 1559
    by Spider1211
Hey guys, grateful if you can help me figure out issue with the following:

Board reference: AAL15 LA-D071P rev 1.0 (with dGPU)

    Backstory:
Laptop came in as dead. After diagnosis, 5VALW regulator was shorted. Regulator was replaced and laptop boots without issue.

However, when trying to boot into windows, I get WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and laptop reboots. Sometimes it would start booting into windows and give the welcome message (fresh windows installed) but would then give BSOD with above error and restart. Sometimes I get MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD and...
