Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
My board was dag35dmbad so in your case it may not be the vccsa coil issue
Vccsa coil is connected with CPU core supply
Anyhow
If bad battery then remove it and check
It is good you have 32khz clock available means rtc circuit is fine provided 3volt available at rtc battery
If your charging battery is faulty replace it and check
Software check:if 3volt available at cell, have you tried CMOS reset by pressing ctrl+v key while holding power button ,read hp page for details
Replace ram or use different ram slot and check
Do hard reset to remove any residue voltage in motherboard
If all fails time to work on motherboard

Can a bad battery kill the SIO?

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
I figured out what "SIO" means. "Super I/O" aka "EC" or "Embedded Controller" IC

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
It started out with a bad battery (puffy cells)

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
Still getting 5.3 blink code. Could the SPI IC be bad itself? I tried to flash the BIOS and nothing changed.

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
stingerchamp, So even though board does not power on I checked Xtal with silly scope and I do have a 32KHz RTC signal. Not sure which coil by SD card slot you are referring to. I have the board out of the case just FYI

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
Not sure what an SIO chip is. Well I tried to perform a BIOS reset before I got your message by holding Windows key and "B" and now the fans spins for half a second and the power button light goes off, so now I am not even getting a flashing caps lock. 2 steps backwards...

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
I had the same issue ,resolved two days ago
You have to check crystal (oscillator) near PCH
It is a clock generator (frequency generator)for PCH vice versa
Second check Vccsa coil near SD card slot there should
Be above 0.94 voltage.

Re: Hp 15 5 blinks and 3 fast blinks
It is probably SIO chip.

Please has anyone encountered any problem with this hp pavilion series,
Board IdAX1BMBAF0, It gives this caps lock blinks with no display.
5 slow blinks and 3 fast blinks. According to hp troubleshoot they state that error code to "The embedded controller has timed out waiting for the BIOS"
I have reprogrammed the bios but its still the sameTags: None
