Asus X751LD no power, fixed by replacing bad DC-in MOSFET

    Hi,
This machine was entrusted to me with a note saying "doesn't work, no lights, probably motherboard".
Indeed, after plugging in the charger, nothing was happening and the battery wouldn't charge. Obviously an issue with the charging circuit.
No voltage on the B+ line (measured on the 10mOhm current sense resistor of charging circuit), but the 19V was present after the DC in connector, meaning the DC-in MOSFETs weren't passing through the current.
First I thought the charger IC (bq24735) was dead because I had 0.8V on various pins (CMSRC, ACDRV, ACOK if I remember fine), even though I had 19V on VCC, 5.8V on REGN and 2.8V on ACDET. I replaced it with a bq24740 (which should've at least shown a different behaviour) but nothing changed so I was wrong.
Indeed, the second DC-in MOSFET (towards the system side) was completely shorted (gate/source/drain), so that's why I had the same voltage on all those pins.

Replaced it with what I had laying around, a 4921N, too large to fit properly but at least it works now, turns on and charges the battery.

As always, I forgot to take pictures.

Hello Aldebaralph, were you able to detect the Mosfet piernov was talking about??
      I have the same problem.
19 V on the input plug and only 0.4 V on the charging plug but 2.4 or 2.8 Volts on ACDET...

I´m not sure which one is the "second" DC-in Mosfet

        I'm talking about this one.

          Thank you for the picture.
I have trouble to find a proper Mosfet in web (with acceptable delivery time).
What size of Mosfet have you used? The mounted one has SO-8FL?

How do you test MOSFET in laptops ?
            by Jane
I tried to use this method:

            Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the

VGA MOSfet permanently shorted and loss of MOSfet pad
            by Nooy
Hello everyone, I recently found this badcaps site and super Learn Electronics Repair youtube channel. And I wanted to learn how to troubleshoot power supplies and VGA cards and how to practice soldering, since I already have a properly defective piece of them. I am currently trying to solve two problems:

I have a Gigabyte GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD type card. I managed to find the faulty MOSfet (AON6414A) on it, which I replaced. The card starts up, but after about half a minute, the MOSfet in the same position will be shorted again. Is it possible that the PWM controller driving the MOSfet...

what to check before replacing hybrid MOSFET/controller IC on SAMSUNG TV power board
            by MacGyver's paperclip
TLDNR; Have an old SAMSUNG TV with blown hybrid MOSFET/controller IC on power board to be replaced; replaced blown main capacitor on same power board several years ago successfully, and TV has been working fine since until this IC popped all of a sudden. Want to know what if anything to check on board to make sure before replacing and testing with new IC. Have 2 new matching ICs, DIP socket to make removal/replacement easier, a whole other known-good power board with which to compare, if necessary.

Intel D865PERL - no Vcore after replacing MOSFETs and MOSFET drivers
            by kotel studios
            Hi,

Finally got time to fix this board up.
At first it didn't give any POST codes. Turns out it was an unsupported Celeron D cpu. After dropping in an Celery 2.6gHz the CPU came out of reset with clock signal, but still no post codes. For a while it did work when I applied pressure to the ADP3168 chip, but on next reboot the MOSFETs started to burn. Then I left it as is for months.

Now I came back prepared. Replaced the bad MOSFETs and the ADPxx18k drivers. Now I don't get any MOSFETs blowing up issues anymore. But sadly, the Vcore is missing. The whole VRM isn't...
