I initially had a short to ground ,, AND,, the power cord ( AC adapter ) light would turn off. I found the short on mosfet pq607 and replaced the bad N-channel mosfet. Now the charger stays on and this enables me a better chance to test with actual voltage. The next issue is no power, I get voltage in 20 volts,, and the power board receives 5 volts. Chips U3 and U4 are NOT getting power. Not sure where they pull the voltage from... I included the schematic, any help is appreciated.

I took voltage readings at JLED1 20 PIN connection to the power board.

Update,,, found another short on the power board resistor R25,,, now I have power to the led lights, and, still not turning on .... Will continue my quest.Comment

q9 still gets very hot right when laptop is plugged in... replaced the chip several times and no change.... not sure why its heating up so fast..Comment

Q9 in the diagram is a SSM3K7002F n-ch mosfet in sot 23 package, related to HDD activity indicator, in theory you can remove it and the board should work unless it has more components damaged.Comment

Thanks I addressed this problem, actually bought a new board. The main reason I bought a new board was the ribbon cable was damaged ( the ends frayed and missing or touching).. To minimize time and headache I replaced the board and cable.. Now the heat issue is resolved.. Thanks again.Comment

hello everyone , working zebronics power suply 450 watts , 5v ,3.3v givin short to ground black wire, also in circuit at output, resistor was charred but shows right values , after removing resistors 39ohms, 51 ohms, there was no short , no continuity beeps with ground , but after replacing new resistors (now i am not switching it on) ,again short still exists . when i put bigger ohm resistor like 100k ohm , no short beeping sound comes , lower ohm resistor gives continuity beeps ,other big ones donest , as its a working psu , i am confused what to remove now or how to go further now .

Brought a non functionnal PS5. Apparently only a bad PSU...
No beep, nothing.
After some tests i found this :
- PSU is fine (12 volts stable)
- 12 volts line is shorted
- DA9065 was fried, F7003 also => Replaced both of them, short is gone on 12 volts line, no dead short anywhere else.
- By the way, nothing change. No signal, no power, no beep.
Mesuring all rails with my workbench psu (12 volts input)
- 0.00 amp drawing
- 12 volts, 5 volts, 2 volts, 1,15 volts are presents (suppose new DA9065 do is... -

psu has self test feature.
disconnected from mainboard.
determined PSU ok BL ok.
suspect mainboard.
disconnecting tcon has no change on operation.

Hello dear Badcappers,
I came across a PS5 that was longscrewed. The screw went through the HDMI IC (which I replaced + repaired the traces it damaged), however the screw also bend the board and slightly cracked it on the other side. It still seems like it could be fixable though as the area might not have lots of traces going through it (fingers crossed).
Can somebody, please, measure their board and tell me if my assumption of an inner short between the via and ground layer is correct? These 3 pads have almost no resistance. I would like to make sure those are not some data...07-27-2024, 08:54 AM -
Hi there,
I discovered this forum through a youtuber who teaches electronic repair. I've been trying to troubleshoot my dad's old PC which is a Gigabyte GA-H61M-USB3-B3 and will not power on. I discovered a dead short on the 3.3v rail at the ATX connector so I used a bench power supply to feed 3.3v into the ATX connector and sunk about 400mA into the board (I hope that's not too much!). I used a FLIR camera to identify the problem area:
