Clevo W740SU Problem switching on (aka Schenker S413, System76 Galago UltraPro)

    Hi All,

My laptop has developed a fault, when I press the power button its switches on I can hear the disk spin.

If I have the power supply plugged (or keep the power button held down) it will keep doing this on a loop until it switches on.

Nothing appears on the screen at all.

I do have a 2TB spinning disk a 256GB sata and 16GB of ram in this - this will increase power consumption, maybe this tipped it over the edge?

What do you think could be the issue?

I'm based on the north west, UK so if you are close I'd be happy to pay for your time to take a look at this?

I there , i dont think this could be a issue due to power problem .. this clevo must have an adapter at least 7 to 9 amp .

alltough , computer beeing in loop during beggining , does seem to me , bad config in bios , making it to loop start , try removing battery and therefore cmos battery for some good minutes , (also do not attach power source during htis time :P
i've been having clevos for a while , and somethimes they can be a bit annoying .
but mainly bios and starter ICS damage often

      Hi mate,

tried this, even had the battery and the bios battery out for a few days and it's still doing the same thing.

Not really sure what the problem is.

FYI I've attached the repair manual for this laptop, hopefully should help in diagnosing this issue?

if pl4 pl5 are 3.3 and 5 volt , check if they comes up after pressing power botton and if they go down within a second or stay up for a while.

OK pal I know it's been a while, I've got the multimeter out and checked it.

They seem to down down within a second or so, I have to put my meter on max voltage so I can see what the voltage actually is because the laptop keeps looping round and round. PL4 goes up to 5.18v and pl5 goes up to 3.271 volts,
(there are two pins and on one side the voltage is slightly lower.....).

This is with everything removed, only the montherboard, power cable, and on/off switch (there some secondary circuit boards which I also left on as they were clipped in).

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
            by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
            1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
            2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
            3. Problem: TV shuts down
