I have an MSI GT70 laptop which came to me for repair with a faulty power jack. When I dissassembled the unit I found the jack was completely burned out on the positive leg and had fused together with the positive and negative inside the motherboard (checked with multimeter).
I was able to disconnect the filters from the main power input and remove the short between positive and negative by jumpering a new power jack directly to a good area of the board. This was working fine and the machine turned on, charged the battery etc. Unfortunately this has now stopped working and the machine no longer powers up - i've checked the power going into the board is still correct at 19v when the charger is connected and i've got 3v at the power button.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to check?
