Medion Akoya blown cap (?) on DC IN board

A friend of mine asked me to look at his laptop which had trouble powering up. Sometimes it would start and sometimes it would just be dead. I opened it up and after careful inspection found the fault. A surface mount element burned out taking a part of the PCB along with it. I'm not sure what it is, guessing it's a cap (see pic). I tried to be smart and just filled the hole with solder but that didn't help. It actually gave me some smoke from the flat white connector which connects the DC IN board to the mainboard. Luckily I only tried connecting the power supply to the DC IN board itself without the rest of the laptop attached

I contacted Medion repair center in Germany and they don't have the part in stock. The repair center in Slovenia gave me an option to send them the laptop for inspection. Their exact words were "maybe something just has to be soldered". Very professional reply. Now my question is, can I fix it?

    That's a pretty tiny picture.

I'm not sure, if that was sarcasm or you were being serious?

Don't know why but the built in forum image viewer doesn't like it, if I attach the pictures this way:

just found this on ebay. Doesn't seems there is any blown parts there, maybe a (via) shortened to some other rail caused the charred area. Since the was smoke then i would definitely go for replacement.

Wow, I just went through that seller's entire inventory and couldn't find the part. Care to PM the link please?

Never mind, I searched Google for the image and came up with this guy's finished auctions. He sold two of those for 99 € each!

well it was an old auction, just took the pic cause it had higher resolution.

There are other seller but the price tag is higher.

Can you post a pic for the opposite side of the board?

Well if you have desktop power supply then you can fix it by injecting low voltage high ampere.

Comparing the pictures, the printing on the two boards is different. So don't assume they will have the same parts.

                      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                      Assuming...

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
                      by cmlewis89
                      Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...
