i have hitachi 160gb disk that have password on it. can it be unlocked without pc-3000?

You can try the software HDD Unlock, you should try to link it anyway.

the ATAPI standard supports a reset command that will clear all passwords and lowlevel-format the drive.

unfortunatly you may need to build something with a microcontroller to do it.
the reset sequence is not supported by USB adapters and i have never seen any pc sotfware either.

you can find the info in the ATAPI standards documents.

you must have tools like pc3000 to unlock this drive
