HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing

I have this laptop for repair with no video output.

    screen -> no video
VGA and HDMI -> no video

Laptop turns on and Caps lock keeps blinking.

Took the mobo out and discovered 2 video chips:

AMD RADEON IGP 0922 MADE IN TAIWAN P0N866.00 215-0674034 (small chip)
ATI 0924 MADE IN TAIWAN P0P990.00 216-0728014 (bigger chip)

I think it is pretty sure, not 100% sure, that the GPU has to be reflowed or reballed.

Which chip would need to be reflowed or reballed ?
    What do you think ?

    Video chip got memory aside
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Oke thanks :-) I am going to reball the ATI chip.

@ktmmotocross : What do you mean by NB, I suppose you do not mean North Bridge ? Little bit confused.

Besides there is another BGA chip: AMD SOUTHBRIDGE 0923 TAIWAN P0P724.00 218S7EBLA12FG , which is an I/O Controller chip.

Aha, just found out that the AMD RADEON IGP chipset is the North Bridge chipset.

Desoldered AMD RADEON IGP and cleaned mobo and chip.

The chip looks fine, but the mobo looks like if solder paths are missing.
They do not seem crucial because none of the paths are connected.

I made a closeup picture with my macro lens, can you maybe take a look ?

Those pins are dummy don't worry about them. 215-0674034 needs to be replaced, they are going bad very often. If you'll just reball it it will come back to you very soon.

This is very important information, thanks a lot.

Some time ago I saw this video:

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AcEt073Uds

But concluded that reballing is not always bullshit, I am doing a lot of ps3 reballs and have a ps4 in stock that needs a reball.

But another question, how can I find out in advance, whether or not it is better to replace a chip by a new one ?

I found a h.p. dv6000 as is at a pawn shop for $10 . No battery , cd drive , hard drive or power supply . I just found a 30v power supply at good will . The plug fits and makes the blue lites work , but nothing else .

Louis knows what he's talking about, you always have to replace a chip with new one. I always do and I have no returns at all. I know people that doing reballing and they have returns all the time. The problem with those chips is inside the crystal and not below it.
Consoles is a totally different story.

I understand that it is always best to replace the GPU.

Is there an overview somewhere of all problem laptops and gpu types ?
But, not all chips do have problems inside the crystals, right ?

It is best to have those new chips in stock right ? Otherwise customers need to wait longer. I can order from http://www.ic-chipset.com , but that will take 8 days.

Does somebody know a shop in Europe who sells new BGA chips ?

Thanks, I will check those video's tomorrow.

I was not so keen on the attitude of the person in the youtube video.
