Re: Waterdamaged Asus N56VB - no power
Tomorrow, I will buy the same laptop with defective keyboard for 100 Euro, and do some comparances later on.
Thanks for your input, when I have found the cause and solution, I will post it here.

Re: Waterdamaged Asus N56VB - no power
I cannot remember exactly where it was, it was at the side directly towards the motherboard somewhere in the middle.
There was no short in the power jack, when the connector of the power jack, was not connected to the motherboard. Somehow, in the beginning I measured a resistence of a few MOhms.
When the power jack, is not connected to the motherboard, the resistence between ground and + is 36,7 kOhm.

Waterdamaged Asus N56VB - no power
Laptop type : N56VB-S4061H
The motherboard type is : N56VM Rev 2.3 GT740M
Yesterday my girlfriend dropped a glass of water (few cc) on my keyboard.
My laptop directly switched off and would not power on anymore. No leds would go on.
Also when I removed the power cord from 220V, plugged it back it, it would not power on anymore.
So, I directly removed the motherboard from the laptop, and discovered water on it. Removed it, and dried all the laptop parts with a hairdryer.
Today I picked up my multimeter from home, and the power supply...

Re: HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing
I understand that it is always best to replace the GPU.
Is there an overview somewhere of all problem laptops and gpu types ?
But, not all chips do have problems inside the crystals, right ?
It is best to have those new chips in stock right ? Otherwise customers need to wait longer. I can order from http://www.ic-chipset.com , but that will take 8 days.
Does somebody know a shop in Europe who sells new BGA chips ?Re: HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing

Re: HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing
This is very important information, thanks a lot.
Some time ago I saw this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AcEt073Uds
But concluded that reballing is not always bullshit, I am doing a lot of ps3 reballs and have a ps4 in stock that needs a reball.
But another question, how can I find out in advance, whether or not it is better to replace a chip by a new one ?Re: HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS ...very important

Re: HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing
Desoldered AMD RADEON IGP and cleaned mobo and chip.
The chip looks fine, but the mobo looks like if solder paths are missing.
They do not seem crucial because none of the paths are connected.
I made a closeup picture with my macro lens, can you maybe take a look ?...

Re: HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing
Oke thanks :-) I am going to reball the ATI chip.
@ktmmotocross : What do you mean by NB, I suppose you do not mean North Bridge ? Little bit confused.
Besides there is another BGA chip: AMD SOUTHBRIDGE 0923 TAIWAN P0P724.00 218S7EBLA12FG , which is an I/O Controller chip.
Aha, just found out that the AMD RADEON IGP chipset is the North Bridge chipset.Last edited by ed1973; 04-23-2015, 07:28 AM.

HP DV7-2120ed - no video - CAPS lock keeps flashing
I have this laptop for repair with no video output.
screen -> no video
VGA and HDMI -> no video
Laptop turns on and Caps lock keeps blinking.
Took the mobo out and discovered 2 video chips:
AMD RADEON IGP 0922 MADE IN TAIWAN P0N866.00 215-0674034 (small chip)
ATI 0924 MADE IN TAIWAN P0P990.00 216-0728014 (bigger chip)
I think it is pretty sure, not 100% sure, that the GPU has to be reflowed or reballed.
Which chip would need to be reflowed or reballed ?
What do you think ?

Re: Acer Aspire 5734Z with no backlight, replaced by LED screen, still no backlight
So you conclusion is that the mainboard of the laptop, is not delivering sufficient Amp, because you think the voltage is too low ?
Also somebody mentioned that it is not correct that the motherboard is giving 0V on ON/PWM, and my conclusion is, is that because of that the inverter does not get the signal to turn on the backlight. Is that correct ?

Re: Acer Aspire 5734Z with no backlight, replaced by LED screen, still no backlight
But when I replaced the LCD and inverter by a LED screen, I had the same problem.
So the problem does not seem to be the backlight or inverter. And by the way, someone said that it is not normal that you have 0V on the incoming line ON/PWM.
So it looks like the problem is not related to the inverter, and not related to the backlight.
What else could it be ?

Re: Acer Aspire 5734Z with no backlight, replaced by LED screen, still no backlight
I have sent back the LED screen to the supplier.
Now I have the current LCD with the inverter and a connector that is going into the inverter PCB with the following voltages measure on the connector:
GND
GND
0V
3.31V
3.31V
18.06V
18.06V
I removed the wire with 0V from the connector, and put back the connector into the inverter.
Then I soldered the 0V connection on the inverter PCB to one of the...

Acer Aspire 5734Z with no backlight, replaced by LED screen, still no backlight
For the first time I repaired a 5734Z Acer Aspire laptop from which the backlight did not work, but the screen showed output.
When I connected the laptop to an external monitor, it works.
First I replaced the invertor, but the problem persisted.
Then I ordered a new LED screen, to replace the LCD B156XW01 V.2 screen.
According to the supplier the LED screen was a good replacement for the B156XW01 V.2 LCD.
I replaced the screen, removed the invertor, installed the PCB, connected everything correctly, but the problem remained the same....
