Almost all other manufacturers have compatible devices, just make sure the
    25x010 is the same.

for example? could it be MX or other firms? or should it be Winbond?

no need to have same code ,
alltough after the X usually they must have same number , 10 = 128K

                  Re: WINBOND W25x010 equivalent ??

Just want to share some observations I have made. Sometimes it also depends on the schematics. I have seen some schematics that may support maybe 2, 3 or all brands . Toshiba models most of the time support only Winbond chips. I remember some time back I programmed a Macronix chip for a Toshiba board (LA-6832P) because the Winbond chip on it was corrupted and the board never booted. I had to look for a Winbond replacement and that worked. So You have to look for the schematic of the board you are working on and check to see if it supports alternative chips. Some examples below.. Quanta QT8 schematic showing SPIs the board support and an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 [15SBGU-6050A2547701-MB-A02] that had a corrupted Winbond chip and I was trying to replace with an EON chip (pc never booted). So the long and short of it is that the board has to support the replacement...
