    nvidia ic undervoltage

everybody know that voltage regulator for nvidia ic can be hw modded. unique release even calculator for that.
i look in my bios folder and found NiBiTor for modding nvidia bios and it have even frequency and voltage modding feature. do u think that it can be used to undervoltage nvidia ic without hw regulator modding?

    Re: nvidia ic undervoltage

BIOS mods can only be used when there is hardware support for it. You have to check the schematic. I have successfully used this on a gaming laptop i have recently bought (oh yeah, i have to remember to actually post about it). This one was actually in the other direction - the chip is fine and doesn't have a problem with heat, but it became unstable in "power saver" mode due to core voltage being too low in that state. So i set all states to use the 3D mode voltage of 1.0v, and the laptop has been running great since.

However, there are many boards that will only show you different voltages in the different performance states of the chip - in hardware, the voltage really stays at the same level all the time.

Also, most nvidia chips can go lower in 3D mode than even the "low" level that is factory set. There will be at most two voltage values, one "low" and one "high". There are some boards which have digital VRMs, but you will find that even for those, the values are hardcoded either in the BIOS or the EC, and there is no obvious way to change them (i've tried). And the nvidias need all the help they can get to live a long life. So while a BIOS-level modification is possible on some boards, it is no match for a hardware mod.

Besides, BIOS modding on laptops is quite tough. You have to first get (or dump from the machine) a clean ROM file. Then you need a way to extract the video BIOS module from it, edit it, then put it back in there without messing anything else. There are plenty of tools for Phoenix BIOS, but others like Dell or Insyde, not so much.

Yes. Since you have the laptop apart for repair anyway, might as well change one resistor and do the undervoltage mod too.

          NVidia bumpgate
          by piernov
Just archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
Interesting parts about the failure analysis are "Why Nvidia's chips are defective" and "Why Nvidia's duff chips are due to shoddy engineering"

May complete this post at a later date with more details.
Basically issue is a combination of thermal dissipation of the chip with hotspot,...

          ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
          by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
          Some issues
          A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

          Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

[REQUEST] Dell G3 3579 BIOS Password & AMI Protected Range/BIOS Guard Unlock
          by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 (serial number: MP2BFZEF) bios request
          by Wahaz
          Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....
