    Sony pcg-71318l

    hi guys...... i got here sony laptop board it has a power but no display.

    the intel chips gets very hot

    i found shorted on coil PL18 and tantalum caps and removed.

    but it still shorted pads. pls help......i attached some picture.

    First , check (if the laptop goes on) the 5v and 3v dc/dc chip. after, is possible that the bga is in short itself , see on schematic if ther is a possibilty to exclude the power of this chip and check the short again.
    If you post the motherboard model example mbx-XXXX I try to find the schematic.

      Check pq14 and the other FET next to it. may be they are shorted, not the cap & coil.

        its a MBX-223 M971 mainboard.

        sorry to my 1st post the board has no power.

        when checking 5v and 3.3v it present after 20 sec its done. and bga chip goes cool down.
