    HP Pavillion G6

No lights, no power on light, no start
Stripped whole unit down and tried power supply with bare mboard.
Power supply shuts down when jack is inserted.
Clearly a short on the mboard somewhere.
Any ideas gratefully recd. Thanks Tony

You should probably start with narrowing down which area the short is. Which side of the power management IC for example?

Do you have a schematic? If so, post it here so we can look at it as well, if not, post full motherboard code and hopefully someone can find one

First measure the ohm on power jack, Try to iniect a 1 amp 3 volt (start low and increase carefully) on power jack and look if a component become hot.
if you post the exact mobo model I post the schematic.
In some cases the short is on capacitor or mosfet but if is on another chip is more difficult to detect because you must separate various circuit on motherboard like dc/dc 3v 5v and so on.
try to detect current consumption on

Good pictures of both sides of the motherboard would be great. A more detailed picture of the area around the power plug is also going to be useful.

For a schematic I need a G6 model or motherboard code or spec because there are many model of g6, or post a pics .
Have you a adjustable power supply in current and voltage ?

                Re: HP Pavillion G6

I'm pretty sure that there is a shorted mosfet somewhere around the power plug, but I'm just not very good with schematics. That's why I am asking about photos.

Page 37 shows the DC jack and management circuitry, if that's the correct schematic.

Here is a picture of the mboard. The numbers are 6050A2412801.
The schematics suggested above do not seem to apply. Searching for 6050A2412801 on this site suggest the mboard may be Invatec Rocky AMD rather than Quantum. Niether has the power connector labled as CN12 as on the board. I am puzzled !!
                    Thanks for all the help

but if I right click the link once, then left click on (open link), It opens the link

Great but unfortunately I don't think that sticker is what we need...

The numbers required should be silkscreened on the board (the fine white lettering) somewhere. If you can't find anything obvious, try uploading a photo of the whole board, both sides. It may even be under the sticker itself.

I could be wrong, but Q60 in the top left of the board looks like it may have a hole blown in it. It could well be just the manufacturer mark too, but it seems a little 'off'. Can you inspect it more carefully and check?

Sadly no joy those schematics do not reflect the board I have. But thanks everyone for trying.
