    Lenovo Legion 5 Y540-15IRH IT8226E-192 shorted

Hi, I'm working on a Legion 5, NM-C221 Rev. 2.0 board. Charging port replacement butchered by other shop and EC took a hit. I ordered replacements from China (shums) soldered it on and nothing happens, no lights. It does get 3.3V bot no 5V, draws 50mA. I read on another thread (Lenovo y540-17IRH IT8226e-192 - Badcaps) that it should auto-program but I'm not sure how that process works, should I wait 30s, 1min... then lights will come on, do I need to flash a particular bios or is there something else wrong with the board? Any assistance is much appreciated, thanks.

It could mean that a even more critical issue was overlooked.

So what's working and what not right now, in detail? 50mA is a really parasitic consumption. A dead chipset should be ruled out.

And of course issues caused while soldering the replacement EC (bridges/shorts/cold joints/etc.)

After soldering the EC I usually push each pin to make sure it's soldered properly and I check for shorts between adjacent pins with beep mode, I go through each pin first testing continuity from the pin to the pad then checking for short to the adjacent pin and keep walking the probes down. As for the PCH, with the thermal camera, it's the only thing heating up when I apply power but it's uniform heating so I'm not sure the PCH is dead... unless it's not supposed to heat up or is there a way to test the PCH? I haven't gone through the power sequence yet... still looking for it on the schematic.

        Hi Buddy,

did you solve your problem? Same situation here. I ordered a EC replacement from AliExpress and now stuck at 19v and 0,05a.

When I have replaced EC's on Lenovo's, they need programming with a tool like SVOD4. They don't auto-program from BIOS AFAIK.

No need for programming on this model. You can find a thread at badcaps which confirms it and there are several videos.

If the replacement ec is empty then yes but the ones from aliexpress are used and not empty so they might not reprogram itself.

I buy from SUHMS on AliExpress with never any issues. I've had fake or counterfeit parts off other sellers so just stick with SUHMS.

All the parts from SUHMS are used, last time i ordered (will be the last time also) i received a shorted ec from them. (One vcc pin was shorted even before powering up - they required me to prove it in dispute ). Buying from aliexpress is a lottery and if you get a new EC that is probably like winning a jackpot.

So you know any other source? I know a shop in Germany but he showed a YouTube video where i replaced the chip and told that it doesn't need programming. But he sells "programmed" chips for 44 Euro.

No. If you have to do it once then buy the 44 EUR preprogrammed EC, otherwise buy the programmer - it will pay off in short time. Used parts you buy more than needed in case some don't work.

I don’t disagree that it’s a lottery but so far I’ve had good success with them. Every Chinese supplier will do the dodgy on you at some point. Results vary.
