    HP 15-ec2531nd switching off

    Hi,

I have an HP 15-ec2531nd here which does the following:
    - Turns on. One of both fans goes full throttle. Other doesn't spin up.
    - BIOS works.
    - All self tests pass, except smart pin. Not even with another adapter connected.
    - RAM is ok.
    - RAM slot pins are ok.
    - Battery is ok.

Whenever I want to boot Windows from m2 SSD system switches off.
I have a USB stick with several tools on it, including Windows PE. I can browse this stick's menu, but when I start Windows PE, the laptop switches off at the same point where it would when booting Windows from m2.

Is the EC a suspect? Are there other things I could think of?

    Thanks for your attention.

Smart pin = power adapter ID pin? What is the exact error?

Self diagnose says the pin might be bent, which it isn't. Will check tomorrow for the exact message.
The laptop's behavior is no different with the adapter unplugged.

HP uses an analog voltage to identify the power adapter rating. This voltage is sampled by an analog to digital converter by the EC. Perhaps this voltage is missing.

Perhaps, and something I will investigate. But as said, the issue occurs as well when running from battery. The smart pin should not be an issue then. Unless it is.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
            by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

            After all of...

DVR camera recorder switching power supply capacitor failure really
            by sam_sam_sam
These cheap non brand capacitors at it again

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is

Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the...

Used a Ring tester to troubleshoot a switching power supply that has a blowed fuse
            by sam_sam_sam
I found this switching power which has a blowed fuse checked diodes which were still good out of circuit checked main filtering capacitor with an ESR meter 220uf@450 volts 0.15 value which to me seem bad but maybe not but without these items not in the circuit because I have about 8 ohm on the output of the capacitors so I removed the switching power supply transformer and checked it with a ring tester and all but one winding showed good all others either showed two red lights or no lights on and one winding had all lights on which was the only one that was good

            One other check that...
