Can somebody identify IC903? Is it the same part as IC904?
The location of IC903 is about one centimeter next to the biggest diode on the green side of the board.

I've got a Dell Latitude 5520 here which supposedly has a passwordt on its bios. The laptop does not post. It looks like a lot is missing in the dump. Could somebody please have a look at it?

It turns out the bios is not to blame.
The content of this 8MB chip could be suspect? I do see the ITE EC warm up ever so slightly when I connect the power adapter. I did reflow this BGA chip to check if it would make a temporary difference.
The mentioned GigaDevice chip does contain the identity of this laptop. Could someone fix this with a known good? If that doesn't work I sadly have to let the laptop go unrepaired.Leave a comment:

I'll find the other chip and get it dumped. But how is the windows licence key in the EC? It's a GigaDevice 25Q64CSIG, which indeed is smaller than 16MB...Leave a comment:

Please have a loot at his bios.
The laptop does charge te battery, there's 3.3V present, but that's it.
While checking in HxD it appears that the dump is almost empty. I did find the windows licence key though.

The 5BC000 - 5BDFFF region is all 0xFF. I could not find the Windows licence key either.
Does this suggest my eeprom does not contain this region anymore due to being flashed by someone else already?...Leave a comment:

Can somebody tell me where the DMI region is in this BIOS?
I just took a BIOS file from the official site. The laptop posts again. I still need to inject that region.Leave a comment:

HP 15-ec2531nd switching off
Hi,
I have an HP 15-ec2531nd here which does the following:
- Turns on. One of both fans goes full throttle. Other doesn't spin up.
- BIOS works.
- All self tests pass, except smart pin. Not even with another adapter connected.
- RAM is ok.
- RAM slot pins are ok.
- Battery is ok.
Whenever I want to boot Windows from m2 SSD system switches off.
I have a USB stick with several tools on it, including Windows PE. I can browse this stick's menu, but when I start Windows PE, the laptop switches off at the same point where it would... -
I have a machine which has an iffy bios. flashed it with one of the bioses i downloaded here and the laptop turned on.
I couldn't find here where the dmi region starts and end.
Please fix this bios for me.

Thanks for the quick effort.
Unfortunately this did not change the laptop's behavior.
From this point on this machine sadly became a brick.Leave a comment:

I get verification errors while dumping this EC.
Serial number is GE72 6QD-016NLK1509000008.
So I probably found the smoking gun: corrupt EC chip.
I do have spare EC chips, so that shouldn't be a problem. Unless you really need a dump.Leave a comment:

Hi,
I've a MSI GE72 which crashed during firmware update, according to the customer.
The symptoms are exact like original poster's issue.
I did flash a new BIN to the chip (off board). This did not change anything.
I do see traffic between bios and cpu when probing pin 2 and 5 of the bios chip, so something is good.
The final thing I want to try is reflashing the EC. I did practice on another board with the ENE KB9028Q on it, which succeeded, so I'd like to give it a go on this one.
Can somebody help me with an EC dump?Leave a comment:
