Hello, I have a Sony VGN-N21S that powers on and runs fine but is suffering from overheating problems. I've replaced the thermal pad and paste but this problem suggests the fan control isn't working correctly.
The fan comes on at about 55 and off at about 45 but it's only spinning at 2000 rpm and this is with the hard drive removed so no load on the cpu. In windows the laptop heats up quicky and if the cpu is under load fan isn't cooling it sufficiently and this is causing graphics issues and the laptop to freeze.
I expected to see the fan spin almost constantly at a slow speed then ramp up when the cpu was loaded is this correct ?
I've tested the voltages and components and i'm wondering if the 3.3v instead of 3v is the issue ?
With the power on i get 1.2v at pin 1 and 3.3v at pin 2, when the fan is spinning i get 3.4v at pin 1 and 1.6v at pin 2 of the fan connector.
Any ideas ? Thanks
