MacBook Pro A2159 please help me to identify if this is a flexgate

    Hi all,

i have a MacBook Pro 2019 A2159 which shows this screen when you boot it. I tried a SMC and PRAM reset without any changes. Everything in this book looks very clean even the board. The only "strange" thing i saw when it was open ist the fan which didn't spin at any time.
Any ideas where to search for faults?

Personally, I just use an aftermarket display. For most people this is adequate, or most aren't even aware what TrueTone is or even care about it. For those who want 100% colour reproduction of a Retina display, I send them to Apple. For a model like A2179, most will not shell out the AUD $800 or more and will settle on an aftermarket display. Hip pocket usually is the bottom line for most.

And not one user is even aware that the gap underneath is susceptible to dust/grit contamination that damages those flexes. So education is key if you do replace unless you want them back again in a month or two. And if you want to take a MAC to the beach? Then take a A1466!

Flexgate usually will have vertical lines but have a second opinion too.

Today i had time to open the MacBook and take a closer look. What is your opinion in this Case? Rework the wires or cut the cable and solder a new part onto it?

Where you see the sharp bends; indentation in the flat cable is most likely a break in the conductor of this cable.

What would be your choice for a repair in this case?

Review the YT videos for lcd only replacement. Varying with the design of the MacBook, you may be able to replace only these defective cables but you will need to carefully carve apart the lcd display assembly. No direct experience with this model but the YT videos should help. Search first for lcd replacement cables on AliExpress, etc and then the lcd only for this model. The process is involved but not impossible. There are multiple layers that must be dealt with. Watch multiple videos before starting. Keep us posted if you proceed.

Master Liu has a very good video but removing all layers is a pain. I would say i need 5-6 hours and also have a very high chance of breaking something.
Also most sources recommend to take a used screen because of missing calibration of new screens. But i'm Not sure If this also is the case for 2019 models.

I have exactly the same problem right now! It's very easy to fix! Even too easy! As a rule, it's just one line on the cable! The hardest thing is to remove the logo board for convenience (this is also quite simple)! If I had a trinicular microscope, I would have shot a video, but I have a regular binocular microscope!

So you fixed one line like the regular flexgate?
Maybe you can post pictures of your cable and the spot you fixed. Would be a big help for me.

A2159 MacBook Pro, Entire Keyboard Not Working but Trackpad Working Normally

Currently working on an A2159 MacBook Pro with an issue I haven’t seen before. The entire keyboard is non functional while the trackpad works normally and is fully responsive. I also noticed the keyboard backlight is not working at all. I already replaced the full palmrest / keyboard assembly along with the trackpad flex cable, but the issue remains exactly the same.

                                      Any possible solutions for this?

                                      Hi

While messing around with my MacBook Pro, I stupidly pinged off a very small surface mounted component that I’m now trying to identify.
resistance tests show a rising resistance value, indicating a capacitor.

The laptop boots up and runs, however I'm choosing not to use it until I get it fixed.

i can’t see any markings on the capacitor at 10x magnification using a professional jewler's loop.

It seems like there's some damage to the capacitor - one side doesn't have "shiny bits" - can you tell I don't do this for a living!...

Hello! Please help with a strange disease that I have never encountered before.
At first I got the following status:
MacBook does not turn on. Current consumption is about 0.500-0.600A at 20V from USB-C.
                                      - no signs of rust, or spilled water
                                      - CPU gets hot, fan still spins, no Capslocks light
then I cleaned it and I got the following video:
                                      - Cannot install software, and after a while I get a red screen and the whole thing freezes

Unfortunately, I bought a MacBook A2159 for repair, and when I turned it on, it turned out to be locked. It keeps restarting in recovery mode and then goes into activation lock. I'm devastated. Is there anything I can do about it? Is there any way to check the S/N before purchasing to see if it's locked? Even if I do a paid bypass, I still can't sell this laptop to a customer? Thanks for any information.

                                      MacBook a2159 display issue

                                      Hello,
I’m having a display problem with my MacBook A2159 (2019). The blacks suddenly shifted to a fluorescent blue, but the correct colors return when the screen is moved to a nearly-closed position.

I suspect a loose or damaged hinge-area connection, but I’m not an expert. I had it checked at Apple’s iCare and at third‑party repair shops, and they all recommend replacing the entire display — which is very expensive.

Does anyone know of an alternative fix or have experience with this issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
