FX516PR not charging on DC charger (but charging on Type-C)

    Hello friends,

I have this board not charging with charger, working fine on battery and type-C charger.

Here what if found: my IC chip miss VCC so i follow the line P_CHG_VCC_30 (0V) to P_CHG_VCC_R_30 (0v) and i get 20V A/D_DOCK_IN.
I loose my 20V on the PQ9009, i think it's dead because it's a P-Channel and I get 0V on gate and 20V on source and finally 0V on drain.

    Am I right?

Please find attach IC voltage and the circuit that i think is problematic.

    Thanks !

The measurements are very low for a good mosfet. Replace the part.

As a test, flux and remove this mosfet and then bridge the source / drain pins (2 & 3) to allow for the voltage pass through. The OVP feature will be lost but will be safe as long as the adapter voltage is ~20v or under.

When the mosfet is off the board, test the mosfet in the same way when it is on your work bench. Each posted measurement is too low for a good mosfet.

Remove all power. Measure the resistance across this same mosfet.

      Source & drain
      source & gate
      gate & drain

post each measurement. Yes, it appears that this P-channel mosfet is dead since gate voltage is low enough to enable and allow for the pass through from source / drain pins.

        Source & drain 30 kOhms
        source & gate 300 Ohms
        gate & drain 40 kOhms

        Thanks.

Thanks, i'll change the mofset directly when i'll recieve those mofset.
I don't want to take any risk because the board is actually working with type C... 😁

            Hope that will work !

So finaly i change the mofset, i plug charger and.... I heard a little "CLICK" oh that's weird !
Charger was still not working... I try with another one and again "CLICK" ok, something defintly wrong ...

I remove the diode and take my measurement and there was a short on the drain ! my bad, i didn't check after removing the mofset.
After replacing the defect caps and the diode (for the 3rd time) everything works perfectly !

Thank you again Mon ! 😃

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH05 not charging after repair
                by Cysko
                Hello everybody,
One of my friends brought me his brother's laptop to repair, I'm the third person who put the hands on this laptop (he tried to convince his brother to take it to me for the ram upgrade, dust cleanup and thermal paste replacement but he wanted to make it to his university friend... sorry if I say that, but we saw the result).
The laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH05 with AMD Ryzen CPU and Nvidia GPU.

I'm going to give a quick recap of what happened before I got this laptop for repair to make clear the situation.

                A friend of his brother...

Bauer tool battery pack charging with a HERCULES charger modification
                by sam_sam_sam
The Bauer power tool battery charger just has to many issues with the charger over heating because I several HERCULES Hercules battery chargers that are 3 amp charge and because they have gone on quite a few times over the years before they came out with the fan cooling battery charger I going to modify one so I can charge Bauer battery packs faster than the crape battery charger that they have

Here is how this modification is going to be done I taking a 1.5 amp hour battery enclosure and gutting it removing the battery cells and replacing some Ryobi 1.5 amp hour battery pack that...

Dell 5590 LA-F412P does charge with USB-C not with DC-Jack
                by diamon
As mentioned, I have a Dell 5590 laptop with motherboard LA-F412P.
This laptop works with the USB-C charger and not with DC-Jack charger.
With the USB-C charger attached, the battery is charging and in the BIOS the charger is also recognized.

With the DC-Jack charger attached (USB-C charger removed), the light of the charger is not going off and the BIOS does not see the charger (message AC Adapter = Not installed). I'm using original Dell chargers and I have tested the used chargers on other Dell laptops and they are working correctly.
                I have replaced the DC-Jack,...
