HP G62-b10sg does not charge, works with battery

Hi,

I am new to this forum and have a problem with an HP G62-b10sg.

It won't start without a charged battery. When I attach the PSU without an battery installed, the LED of the power switch, short lits up blue and thats it.

If I start it with a charged battery and its powered on, I can remove the battery and let it run from the PSU.

The LED left of the power jack does not lit up and the battery will not charge.

I've tested so far 2 different PSUs, one 18.5 and one new 19V. They are both second brand PSUs. An original HP is on its way.

I've also tested two different batterys whitch are known as good and they have the same part numbers.

I've updated to the newest bios and removed the CMOS battery for 15min while pressing the power button 1min. without battery installed.

I haven't open the notebook yet. Where do I should look?

I am experienced in soldering and notebook repairs and read all threads about the G62 in this forum but couldn't find a matching topic for my problem.

I hope someone can help me.

I saw a g71 like yours.
I swear I call the guy stupid.
The notebook actually power but the screen stood black. No boot.
After you putt back the battery it booted up.
I was like what the #%@&.
Open if so at least we can find a schematic and start from somewhere.

It has been opened by a friend of mine before he gave it to me, who looked for burnt ICs and blown caps but couldn't find anything.

I am searching now for a defective board with no charging issues to swap the power/charging circuit.

Most of the HPs use the same battery. Are there differents between main parts of the charging circuit, like different MAX Ics?

I want to ask because Id like to get a cheap board, lets say from an Dv3.

Pin 24 DCIN
Pin 2 ACSET(ACIN)
Pin 23 ACPRN(ACOK)

you need to check the V there and post here after.

Hi,

I don't have an ISL6251 but an Maxim8731ae witch is an battery charger and indeed its blown.

Seems my friend hasn't looke close enough.

My part number of the motherboard is 615381-001

Do you have a schematic of this board?

What else do I check?

okay I've checked the datasheet and removed the Maxim.

here are my readings:

DCin Pin22=19,4V
ACin Pin02=2,66V
ACok Pin13=0V couldn't figured out what its guess its an output?

Are the readings okay or is there another fault.

there are lot of 3pin mosfets that switches the acok signal. must check all off them

Give voltages on PQ800 and PQ801 (all pins)

I've just noticed you checked pin 13 of charger. Probably you need to replace charger. Desolder first PR823, PR826 and PR827 and check again pin 13 of charger. Check also pin 3 of charger for REF voltage.

sorry for my late reply.
I've replaced the Maxim charger ic and now it shows me under windows, battery is charging but it doesn't.

But it now works from charger. I will do the steps you've suggestet in the next days.

If you replaced charger (Maxim) and laptop boots. Ignore everything. I can't understand the part about the battery. What do you mean?

I think he meant battery tray icon in windows indicates that its charging but does not actually charge the battery itself. Probably a faulty battery?

Hi,

yes thats what I've meant. The battery is okay, I've tested it in another laptop and there it charges. I do have a second battery which also wouldn't charge in the G62 but does in another laptop.

What is the voltage on all pins of battery connector (with battery and without battery)?
What is the voltage on PR822 (with battery connected)?
What is the voltage on all pins of PQ11 (with battery connected)? Check if allright, PNP FET (SI7129DN-T1-GE3).
Check zener diode PD1 (B340A-13-F_3A)
