    HP Laptop 25-dw2000nl Power supply

    Good morning,
I have a problem with my HP 25-dw2000nl laptop. Since a couple of days the battery is not charging. I've tried changing both the power supply and the battery but either way it won't charge or hold a charge.

The laptop then only turns on and works when connected to the power supply. As soon as I unplug it it has no charge and shuts down. What could be the problem, can you help me?

I'm sorry if the topic is not in the right area.

Hi. Are the replacement power adapter and battery known good parts and suitable for this model of laptop?

Do you have a multimeter? Soldering tools? Which logic board is onboard? Share pics of all silkscreen text of the logic board.

Thank you for the answer. Yes they are both suitable for this model. I have all the tools I attach some photos if there is need for something more specific let me know.

Would you see any white silk screened text on the board for identification? Perhaps 'LA-****' or 'NM-****' or similar. This will assist us on perhaps finding a schematic. If not, need you to trace where the power enters the board and which mosfets are near the charging port and finally the charging IC that is driving these mosfets. Not impossible to work without a schematic but it helps.

Great. Could not find this exact board but maybe found a similar logic board from HP.

Can you confirm the topside chip markings for PUB1 = charging IC on the board?

Perfect! Yes, this is the charger IC and will be very helpful to diagnose.

It is this charger IC that is detecting your power adapter and then creating a boosted voltage to enable the DCin mosfets to power the board. It is a critical part on the board.

You can download the datasheet for this part from here:

bq24735 1- to 4-Cell Li+ Battery SMBus Charge Controller for Supporting Turbo Boost Mode With N-Channel Power MOSFET Selector datasheet (Rev. B)

Use the datasheet to review the topside view and where the pin #1 is located on the chip. Pin #1 = circle on the top left of the IC -> then you will count in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE direction (as shown in the datasheet top view).

Remove all power. No battery. Meter in resistance mode.

Measure the resistance (not diode mode) to ground of pin # 1 and then of pin # 2. Post each measurement. We are checking if the main power rail is shorted and causing the charger IC to power OFF to prevent damage.

My bad - unit works but does not charge. Are your meter probes sharp at the tips? We will need to check some points on the board while it is powered on.

Interested in the voltage to ground of pin # 5 - it is a corner pin. Red probe on pin #5 and black probe to ground (shield is ok). What is the voltage measurement?

I will try to do this test, even I am not very experienced. As for the shield, what do you mean?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                      by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
                      by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                      by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

I have a 24 volt version of the same type of switching power supply but that one I am relocating to meter module and I might do the same thing with this one but I have to modify an enclosure that is not made for this type of switching power supply in fact I am not sure exactly what type of switching power supply it actually fits because none of one's that I have the screws holes do not line up and not even close but the switching power supply fits in the enclosure

So I have take out the switching power supply board out of its enclosure and drill the hole so that it can be mounted...
