Thanks for all the great information mon2! The board has been out for all my testing. I just plugged it in and tested....it now powers up on both sides of the usb c! I'm not sure yet if the other problem may be fixed as well. That being it operating and charging with both the battery connected and usb power adapter at the same time. I probably need to reassemble and test for that to see if its fixed too. But, its great to see this working now. So, what do you think I should do going forward? You think to risky to leave off and reassemble and send back to the customer. Or should I try and locate the replacement part? Maybe it's not even available. I haven't checked ebay or Digikey yet.
Help please..Lenovo ideapad 5 14itl05 power and charging problem

Good job! See attached. This ESD device is a SOT23-6 package.
Here is a part that is suitable and will be a drop-in replacement for the above defective ESD suppressor:
TPD4E001DBVR Texas Instruments | Circuit Protection | DigiKey
While the board does not require the use of these parts, they are recommended. Transients from the 'outside world' of the logic board, are very common and can nuke this board again. Without such a component, the logic IC(s) will receive the spikes. Becomes much more expensive to repair if that should happen.Comment

Hello mon2....Hey, I just want to let you know that I did order the part from the link you sent me. Thank you! I got it in and installed it, Re assembled the laptop and tested it. Everything works now! Evidently that part was also causing issues with the battery and adapter. That being the adapter wasn't charging the battery either. Thanks again!!Comment

If any power rail is missing -> remove all power -> meter in resistance mode -> measure the resistance to ground. Need to confirm that there is no low resistane on that rail which can cause an excessive current draw -> will power down the rail.
So start with the 3v3 ALW rail and also confirm that the rail is being ENABLED. Measure the voltage to ground of the ENABLE pin for that rail.Comment

Great update. Thanks.
See attached for the ESD array @ DT8
DT8 = CESD2510UC3V3U
Datasheet:
2009171509_CREATEK-CESD2510UC3V3U_C575940.pdf (lcsc.com)
This is a very common footprint ESD protection device available from assorted vendors including Texas Instruments / SOCAY, etc.

just chiming in to say I had a similar fault, no power at all from the charger. DT16 was shorted gnd to vdd , DT1 had no apparent issues but removing both was needed. ill order some new ones but in the mean time its back to life.
this was caused by a dead DELL charger. one "flash" on the charging led as soon as i plugged in and no more charging since.
somehow using a powerbank which only gave 20W at 12V allowed it to charge slowly? althought only when laptopt was OFF.
Its like it didnt need to communicate , really confusing stuff.Comment

Thanks for your feedback. It is nasty how a simple low cost device can cause the logic board to fail. As noted, there are assorted crosses for this part from various manufacturers. You can probably source through Digikey / Mouser / Arrow, etc. in addition to Aliexpress.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by GLISITHi all,
TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!
I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

by claws77hi guys, my motherboard will not start no matter what
when connected to ac power, the battery does get charge, led indicator glows red when discharged and turns white as it is fully charged.
but rest nothing happens no sign of life.
this laptop has one preexisting usbc power issue - so i use DCIN jack for charging my laptop.
with this issue my laptop was unable to power ON only sometimes i just had to wait some time.
but now nothing happens no matter how much i wait/ charge/ press and hold power button.
