Dell E7450 - LA-A963P motherboard damage and replacement

Hi all, I damaged the SD card slot of my notebook, it is not a big issue but I would like to have it back to work. I realized there is no spare part so I have to take a new motherboard. Not so expensive so I can make it. A few questions as I found a new MB on aliexpress.
    I believe the procedure is:
    - remove the old MB;
    - install the new one;
    - install my SD disk back.
Is this correct...what about the BIOS? Will the notebook start correctly or it will be necessary some other software/BIOS procedure?
    Thank you for any help.

How bad is the damaged SD card connector? Post some clear pics. Have you checked if there are replacement SD card sockets for your logic board available?

Hi, I checked the SD slot, unfortunately it is my fault. I pulled out an SD card adaptor that was blocked into the slot. The internal contacts are damaged. I am quite confident with electronics so sure about damage not possible to be fixed. I searched the replacement part but it looks like it is not available, it is actually soldered to the MB. As said it is not a big issue as I can use USB card adaptor but it would make me happy to have it working. MB cost is not so prohibitive to me...just for fun.
The image is taken frome the web...but it it the same. You can see where the SD card slot is

Just de solder the sd card reader from mb. You need a hot air station and soldering iron to do the job.I assume there is no other damage and mb is working.

Hi, correct the MB is working. I would keep the the sd card reader in place if I do not have the replacement part. I wonder if the card reader is available .

Replacement parts are usually not available, you need to get it from another circuit board. I consider it quite difficult to replace it, unlike other components on the circuit board, it is not designed to be replaced. In case you still want to fix it, here are some suggestions to ensure it works and is not destroyed when done with a hot air soldering station: Use solder with a melting point of 138 degrees Celsius Sn42Bi58 to reduce the temperature of the solder joint on the part to be removed.

Be careful with the card reader, it is more sensitive to heat than other components due to the mechanical mechanism and springs inside. And there are plastic parts that can melt.

If you want to replace the board, some bios configuration will need to be done about booting preferences, time/date, etc. But a replacement for the socked could also be installed. The hard part is that you will need to search AliExpress "by eye", comparing your part with the photos there.

Hi, well I will spent some money to get a new MB just for fun, I found the proper model/version MB. My understanding is that I will "simply" remove the old MB, reinstall the new one and make all connections. I assume that the boot procedure will "recognize" connected basic hardware....SSD, RAM, screen, keyboard and maybe a tuning of BIOS as well as BIOS update could be necessary.

After you install the new MB, reset the BIOS to the default settings, customise it to include your own preferences and you should be fine. The only real problem is that your current Windows licence (assuming that you're running Windows 10/11) won't transfer to the "new" computer - you'll be relying on the new MBs original licence reactivating and you'll just have to hope that its previous owner upgraded it to Windows 10 before Microsoft closed off the free upograde route. If not, you'll have to pay for a new Windows 10/11 licence key.

Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 won't run on battery after motherboard replacement
                            by dhenion
I'm working on my sister's laptop: Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 - The motherboard died so I replaced it.

                            The original board was:
                            ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 A

                            The replacement board is:
                            ASUS X510UNR REV 3.0 B (identical except B vs A - I couldn't find an A board anywhere. Visually they are identical.)

It boots right up on the replaced motherboard and everything works fine on the new motherboard - but it won't run off battery. When I disconnect the charger it immediately dies. When I plug it back in and reboot the system - it still shows the battery at...

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                            by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Lenovo T490 - motherboard serial - windows licence lost - after corrupt bios chip replacement
                            by baletak
                            Hi,
had T490 with faulty bios chip. Bought chip out of ebay and soldered on. Laptop starts and works however serial numbers of laptop and motherboard do not match.
I have updated laptop model number.

                            1) I did not find the way to update laptop serial number - I have this one.
                            2) I dont know where to get my motherboard serial number and how to update it. Is it somewhere physically on the mainboard? How do I update it?

Hope to find someone to help me with this as I am hitting dead end at the moment.

                            Many thanks

e7450 la-a963p motherboard add bios option
                            by zungu
I have a Dell e7450 i7, the one with the msata port only, not the 2.5 sata port which is the i5 version of E7450. I tried to install a ssd in the WWAN port of that E7450, as I did in a 5580 (in that case both sata and pcie worked 2242 B+M key!). NONE of the ssds I have (sata or pcie b+m key 2242) worked in the WWAN port of the E7450 (Bios and Windows). I wonder if it's something locked in the Bios because nothing is visible in the Bios. The Bios suggests that only another sata ssd would be accepted if it's a ssd connected to a dell docking station ("esata dock port"), zero mention in...

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
                            by glovecaps
                            Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...
