This resource suggests checking caps around WiFi IC (UL000).
There are two that look suspicious.
Will verify with the power injected, but need some time to make an adapter to use multimeter probes for that.

BTW: What is the best way to clean that epoxy (or whatever that is) around WiFi ic?

Very nice finds on the Rossmann link and now these parts. Personally, would use low heat @ 100C + low air pressure and hover over this area. The heat should case this epoxy to become soft or brittle enough to break off and then grant you access to the SMD pads. Voltage inject + IPA over these parts will confirm if they are the root cause. Do wear a mask as we do not know about what the fumes may lead to in the future.

        Update on the case:
Using power injection (1V, 5A) and IPA, I verified that the head was produced from that exact area with the two caps (CL053 and CL002) near the WiFi chip.

I desoldered both and they both were shorting. With those removed the short on PP3V3_S2 rail was gone.
The hardest part was to get through the epoxy/glue around the WiFi chip.

Attaching USB-C power to the motherboard alone switched to 20V (it did not before). After putting the motherboard in the laptop and attaching all the peripherals the laptop turned on, booted and everything is working as expected (including screen, wifi, battery, and fan).

So the case can be considered solved. I will still not fully assemble the laptop as I will buy similar caps and put them back where the bad ones were. Unfortunately, I ripped off one of the pads under the CL053, but it's ok as I can solder it with the CL002, as they are just in parallel.

Thanks mon2 for the help and guidance during this repair.

          820-02020 A2338 Restore/Revive Failed

A2338 - Pristine condition.. I took out of the board and inspected it.. nothing.. as if the computer is barely used even.

Anyway, customer said they tried erasing/formatting it and it got stuck on Apple logo preventing to go further.. I asked them why they tried to erase it from the first place? They said it turned off randomly once.. then they erased it and it worked out for a few days then it shut off again..

I put the computer in DFU; I downloaded the latest Ventura IPSW and restored it.. during the "Installing.." it restarts then it shows the exclamation...

A2338 MacBook Pro M1 Issue with DFU Restore or revive.
          by Stephen
Customer came in with a board issue, board looks clean, board turns on, he did a software update and he got the infamous Apple boot loop logo. He took it to Apple and Apple said he needed a new board. They attempted to DFU revive restore etc no luck. The board is stuck on the (!) point. I tried DFU myself and no luck. Nothing, board boots up goes into DFU computer turns on with Apple logo when applying the patch and nothing it gets stuck at halfway point and hangs on. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular issue. Board isn't liquid damage from what I can tell...

M1 A2338 screen and touchbar issues after cleaning up liquid damage
          by jkruns
          Hello everyone,

This is my first post after browsing this wonderful treasure trove of knowledge for many, many evenings. I've decided to learn how to fix these things, properly.

My patient is an A2338 Macbook Pro M1 (late 2020).

It had some corrosion around JT710 and JT700 caused by liquid spill, as well as against the protective barrier around the USB-C chips UF000 and UF100. So I took the main board out and cleaned it with a toothbrush and alcohol, then with alcohol in an ultrasonic cleaner. Cleaned the touchbar flex connectors as well. The board looks...

Macbook 2017 with touchbar (A1706) won't turn on after removing the screen
          by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

iphone XS turns off when press on screen.
          by smic717394
          Hi,

I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on...
