MacBook Pro (15' A1990) CPU overload on graphics switching

My CPU is going crazy anytime I try to connect my external monitor or play a game. The CPU also goes crazy (from under 1% to 70%) when I turn off automatic graphic switching. Here's where it all went wrong. I decided I should open up my MacBook Pro (15' A1990) and get the dust out since it had been running hot anytime I was gaming. I blew out the fans and they did look really dusty. Not a lot of dust came out though so I'm wondering if it didn't get all caught up underneath the board. But…. This is the stupid part… I was going to just pop out the fans and clean them until I realized how much time and effort I didn't have to spend disassembling the laptop. But in the process I grabbed onto a cable with my tweezers and was about to pull it out when I got a spark! I had forgot to unhook the battery. 😩 After that I was getting all kinds of issues surrounding the graphics. I did also do a system update to Sonoma yesterday but I'm fairly certain the problem was happening before that. All the components “look” ok but maybe I shorted something out?? I have a multimeter but I have no idea what the readings should be for those components.

The spark was from this section of components. Anyone know if these could affect the GPU or anything to cause graphics related issues?

My CPU is throttling anytime the GPU is engaged. I cannot use an external monitor, or start up games... just turning off the graphics switching causes that CPU to go crazy. This started after I caused a spark on the board. I thought I'd disconnected the battery (apple has weird batteries in new models) but hadn't and my tweezers momentarily connected with some componets and caused a spark. I took the laptop in to a guy who found a couple shorted out resistors. He simply removed them from the board, did not re-solder any on, and said the board seemed to be working fine. I picked up today and the problem still exists!! ugh. All that time and money. Ive been trying to learn how to read the schematics and boardviews but I just don't know enough to figure it out. does it sound like the problem is with the GPU? could the GPU itself be shorted out? how can I test that? ANY other thoughts or advice welcome! One other thing.... I installed a system update to OS Sonoma that day as well though I doubt that has anything to do with it. sounds more like a hardware issue, right?

I did run some tests and reproduced the issue when the dedicated graphics were engaged. could the GPU still work while shorted and just cause issues with the dedicated graphics? So strange!

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

        i9 32GB Ram 1TB

Hi, I found short on one of 6 black nand (total 1TB).
i removed all 6 nand ( voltages all ok) and now i want to program with JC P15 but for A1990 2019 there is only 512GB configuration.
I try A2141 1TB configurazion with TSB4228 but the position on pcb is different ( U9300 and U9400 is no stuff on A1990 but present on A2141 and U8800 and U8900 is no stuff on A2141 but present on A1990 )
macbook with A2141 configuration run on recovery but don't complete it.
        anyone can help me?

        MacBook Pro 2018 - A1990 Dead - not charging - only 5V
        by robka
        Hi,

        my MacBook Pro 15" 2018 Touch Bar (A1990) doesn't charge anymore. Board# 820-01041-A

I'm not experienced in diagnostics, but I want to try to solve the problem with your help, because every local shop charges around 600€ (650 usd). Which is the value of the whole Macbook.

The Macbook was charging when suddenly the "charging sound" appeared every other second for around 4-5 times.
After that the Macbook was dead. It isn't charging anymore.

The USB-C Port where the charger was plugged is burned. Also The Cable and the...

        Macbook Pro A1990 - 820-01041 Stuck at 5V / 0.02A
        by DATATECH85
        Hello,
I am currently working on a Macbook Pro A1990 (motherboard 820-01041) which is not charging.
The Macbook consumes 5V and 0.019A at USB-C. There seems to be a partial short-circuit on the PPBUS_G3H rail as I have 0V on this rail.

I've physically separated (by removing F7000 and F7001) PPBUS_G3H and the ISL9240 charging chip to see which side the short is coming from. Removing these fuses gives me 12.6V at the output of the ISL chip (PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_REG).
However, I can't work out exactly why I don't have the PPBUS_G3H rail.

        Here are the values...

        A1990 MacBook no power help
        by Cameron Kajohn
I have a a1990 2018 15 inch MacBook Pro that will not power on.
I have replaced the pch bga chip because it was heating up under my thermal camera.
I have replaced the battery, and replaced the small ic between the gpu and cpu as it had a direct short to ground.

the MacBook now pulls 20v 2.4amps the trackpad clicks but it does not ever attempt to power on not even fan spin. After PCH replacement I was able to get it in dfu mode 1 time and restore bridge OS, but now the MacBook will no longer go into DFU mode.

I have also noticed L7030 gets extremely hot yet...
