    Intel i7 10800H downgrade i7 9750H/8750H

    Good day Experts.

Recently i got msi laptop which had a Drmos melted on cpu vcore. i replaced that and the short is gone. laptop starts when pwrbtn is pressed but no display. Capslock not responding(no capslock led ever) so i assume cpu is just bad..

cpu is getting hot as normal. keyboard backlite works. all voltages are present and in normal range. cpu, gpu fans are spinning..

I want to replace it but i dont have i7 10800H, i have a donor i7 9750H and 8750H.. the question is any of the 2 i7 8th and 9th gen can work here if replaced with the bad i7 10800H..?? as per specs all 3 cpu has the same tdp, bga socket. only difference is cores and speed..

    Thanks

Note the marking on each cpu, look for them in cpuworld website and find out the microcode for each of them. Then check your bios for microcode support. If the microcode is supported in your bios,it is likely to work.

You can look for microcode guidance here

        HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation (not G2) BIOS Downgrade - (Pre-Spectre & Pre-Meltdown)
        by xaxex
Hi, can someone please help with BIOS downgrade?

I have recently figured that the meltdown and spectre patches are taking toll on CPU. I know about grc tool but that will only fix the Windows/OS patches. The hardware ones, which are included in BIOS, will still be limiting CPU.

Currently, the laptop has BIOS version 01.47 Rev.A. I want to downgrade to 01.40 Rev.A which is from January 2018. I am pretty confident that HP had not released patches then.

All the latest & previous BIOS versions of this laptop are available here:

HP Omen 15-dc0001nh capslock blinks 5 long and 3 short
        by Tom_x
        Hi,

I have HP Omen 15-dc0001nh (DA0G3DMBCE0 rev: E) with blinking capslock 5 long and 3 short. Fans spin constans speed.

HP worked for 2 months after i repaired (before damaged by thunder via rj45 port) I removed LAN ic and powered on

        Now with blinking capslock:
All voltage present on big coils, except +VCCGT (i don't know this need for booting)

I tried re-flash bios with known firmware- same result (now i don't have spare bios chip to test spi flash failure)
DDR4 ram is ok, tested on other laptop
        WLAN and SSD removed,...

Elitebooks (820, 840 etc. all gens) and those continuously flashing Power LED + flashing CapsLock LED
        by STKR123
As the Elitebooks (820, 840 all gens) only show flashing Power LED and flashing CapsLock (continuously) + a very soft "ticking" noise near the DC Jack,
I wonder if re-flashing the BIOS might be of any use here.

As far as I understood, steady flashing either means insufficient power or a CPU/GPU/Motherboard issue. I use the original 65watt power supply.

There are so many threads out there, but most of the solutions involve flashing codes, which I dont have or claim that you MUST use the original power supply, do a hard reset, reseat the RAM, clean the RAM,...
