820-01949 Running Slow Fast Fan ASD Software Download?

    Hello all,

I'm trying to repair this A2251 macbook pro. Board is 820-01949. The original issue was liquid damage which all cleaned up well and the board was not heavily damaged. Unfortunately after liquid damage cleaning the computer is running extremely slow and the fan is running at full speed. Even the cursor is lagging. Because of this I can't use the built in hardware diagnostic to give me a clue as to what is happening. Does anyone know if Apple Service Diagnostic software is available for this model? Any other clues which could help me out? Seems to me there is an issue with a temperature sensor.

All diagnostics require Apple GSX login now. Been that way for years so you'll have to go though each sensor individually.

What treatment did you perform BTW? Did you take any photo's of where each location was before cleaning?

Start by checking U5850/5870 amd the I2C lines for activity, and try another trackpad as well. Liquid damage often gets under a BGA, often resulting in the power input pad getting eaten away.

I ultrasonic cleaned the board. Yes I noted where the liquid damage was. Would there be thermal throttling if the trackpad was the issue? I know that will give you the fast fan spin but can't recall if I've seen that slow down the processor speed. Checked U5850 and U5870 but couldnt' find anything wrong as far as rudimentary testing, will have to haul out my O-scope to check I2C activity.

Just measure the voltage to ground on the smbus / i2c lines to see if they are stuck. Post the measurements.

Just as a FYI, ultrasonic cleaning of these newer boards is not recommended anymore (at least this is according to Paul S, formally of Rossman repair). Skip through to about 1:41:10.

He claims this kills the NAND's. See if you can do a DFU revive to rule them out.

            U5850/U5870 I2C
            Pin 9 SCL: 0.402
            Pin 8 SDA: 0.400

Thanks for the heads up on the ultrasonic, did not know that. I've actually ultrasonic quite a few of them without any problem but will probably have to stop just in case.

I replaced the trackpad with no results. Still clocked down and has fast fan spin. Will attempt the DFU.

Hi. Recently serviced a damaged A1466 Macbook Air. Thought to post the issues and resolution for each.

Macbook AIR Model A1466 Diagnostic 09-01-2021

Issue: Liquid damaged (beer spill) Macbook AIR will not power up.

              Problems & Resolutions

              1) Attached Apple magsafe power adapter. No green / no orange light. This confirms the absence of the PP3V42_G3H voltage rail. The PP3V42_G3H rail is the primary voltage rail necessary to communicate with the magsafe power adapter to report the green or orange light status to the end user....

MacBook Pro 13inch 2017mid (A1706 820-00923-A) - liquid damage - USBC and Display short circuit
              by rilley
              Hello everyone,
I am new into this, sorry to post it here. I want to make this as a pet hobby project, as this mac is not urgent.

              I have (Macbook Pro 13inch 2017mid) A1706 820-00923-A

My mac had liquid damage a long time ago, the connector from J8500 is damaged on pin 46 (PP5V_S0_ALSCAM_F), I guess the LCD/display panel is in short circuit, as I saw the connector from the LCD burned as well.

And the resistor L4004 is literally burned.

From what I see from the schematics, it does not affect any other rails, only the connection to the display...

MacBook A1989 overheating after liquid damage
              by Jenzo
              Hey everyone,

Had a MacBook pro 13" 2018 (A1989) come in for liquid damage. The only liquid damage was all around UB400. It was most likely soda, so there wasn't that much corrosion. I reflowed the UB400 and the QB chips with some flux, and replaced the caps/resistors that were in bad shape. Seemed to be working fine at first, but the next day when testing it again, the laptop charges and boots fine, the CPU would overheat, and U7210 would get to 70 degrees Celsius as well. I'm testing with only screen and battery connected at this point.

              I can't figure out how...

MacBook Pro 16 M1 Pro Liquid Damage (820-02100)
              by mitchw
Got a MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16'' to rescue immediately after liquid accident - I got it in less than 30 minutes after the spill.
It got spilled from behind when the laptop was closed. It mostly affected the rear of the mainboard and the bottom of the LCD.

I quickly took it apart and washed the liquid residue off the mainboard.
The area around the UP800 had some light corrosion, but it just washed away with some IPA. Other areas looked undamaged.

The mainboard got a thorough cleaning, as did the top case and LCD connectors / cables.

              Now the laptop...
