Asus K53E is destroying my LED screens

Laptop was having issues with the DC Jack, so I desoldered it and installed a new one, then screen started to display everything in green film grain, then it stopped displaying anything at all in the screen, but everything was working fine through HDMI/VGA.

Ordered another screen through Amazon and the same green thing appears, now I'm afraid it's killing the LED screens.

The white light is the camera's flash.

I checked around and this guys seemed to have the same problem:

Could it be a ground issue? How can I test? Appreciate it if anyone can chime in.

Perhaps bad cable going to the LCD?

I just did a complete teardown of this same system for the same reason........bad dc jack. I did not remove the entire jack.....just resoldered the center leg, it had cracked right where it coms out of the jack and curves down into the motherboard.
Found the fault by turning the lights off, and in a dimmely lit room I plugged the power brick in and saw a blue arch jump the gap....... a little flux, a little heat, a little solder, as good as new.
As far as the green screen, check your solder connections on that new jack...one of the legs should be flowed onto another connection, for ground I believe.......If looking at the laptop......the dc jack is to the left....you have four legs on the dc jack, one on each corner..........the one on the upper left corner is the one that should flow onto that ground.
Or when you plugged in the screen cable on the mobo you caught some of the tape that holds it down. Good luck.
        Regards.

Edit: The one I did was in fact a K53SD.......Not sure if it is the same mobo.

My god, same symptoms, old DC jack had the middle leg broken, did you take a picture before assembly?

          1) Some glue did indeed got caught in the LCD cable, I'm going to clean it again.

          2) Can you tell me what does the leg connect to ground to? I think I saw some solder joining with the LAN port.

Yes, the joint indeed attaches to the LAN ground.
I did take pictures, but no close ups sorry.
Here is a pic of the mobo.
This board is very thin so it flex's badly, especially around the dc jack.

Re: Asus K53E is destroying my LED screens

I soldered it to LAN's piece of metal but it's the same thing, I do however have to add another detail, the computer was being used for a week with charger attached to - and + of the DC jack, would that leave off some permanent damage to any component?

Also the board is the same, a K53SD and I can't find any schematics for it.

Also to make sure, which leg are we talking about?

                Red or yellow?

Re: Asus K53E is destroying my LED screens

remove the dc jack completely and check for damage to pcb, you will find its got charcoal around the hole, clean it up and clean off green mask on both sides of pcb and resolder, when the jack is removed check for cracked pcb tracks around leg holes of dc jack.

Re: Asus K53E is destroying my LED screens

I left some details off, before ordering the new DC jack, I soldered a different model of DC jack that uses cables, I stripped one red and black cable and soldered it to one negative/positive legs of the original jack.

I saw some flickering and original screen was gone, it didn't send signal anymore.

So probably something blew off, what should I check?

                      So far:

                      1) LVDS cable must be good.
                      2) DC jack is soldered and properly grounded this time.
                      3) VGA/HDMI output fine.

try to reset your Flex cable, maybe bad connection only,, worst is Flex cable issue
try to reset flex cable in your back of lcd and motherboard flex port,,

Believe me, I've tried, I cleaned the pins with contact cleaner and it doesn't fix it.

try to check flex continuity one by one , x1 resistant

I'm tired of testing the LVDS, I'm going to order one off from Ebay right away.

Ok, I'm back with a brand new cable from eBay, I still have the green tint in the new screen, old screen still dead. Also I noticed sometimes the laptop wouldn't turn on, like it's shorted and it's preventing it to turn on.

Do the screens work at all in another laptop? I knew LED screens were temperamental as far as repair goes but I've never heard of a laptop killing them before.

I haven't peaked at the schematics yet but my best guess is too many volts on the LVDS somewhere.

Original screen is dead, new screen is brand new, also tested other working screens from other laptop.

I mean, are the screens the laptop "killed" working at all when tried in another laptop, even the new one?

Well, I was exaggerating, there's only 1 casualty, and yes, the dead screen is still dead in other laptops. But I do know the original had a tint screen too , the only difference is I turn it off as soon as possible with the new screen when testing.
